Yannick Ngakoue (threads merged)

Yan isn't going anywhere. He is going to show up like George Constanza after he quit his job and pretend like nothing happened.

Quote:The relationship between Ngakoue and the team turned sour last summer when the Jaguars offered him a deal that averaged $19 million annually. He sought $20 million annually and held out for 11 days in training camp before playing last season for $2.025 million.
“He is a tremendous player, tremendous person,” Caldwell said. “He’s always been first class in everything he’s done here, in the locker room and through his time here, the first four years of his contract. Obviously, he feels like things have not gone the way he wanted.
“In some aspects, he may have a point. But we put our best foot forward not once but twice

(emphasis added)

On a basic level I know I have no say in this.  I know a million dollars is a lot to Yan, and may be a lot to Khan since he's signing the checks.

But damn, in the worl of NFL contracts, a million a year doesn't seem insurmountable at all.

I'm sickened by the idea that a million a year caused all of this.
Wow, this idiot lost $17M last year over a hissy fit he threw because jags wouldn't offer him exactly $20M a year, "only" $19M a year.

I gotta say after reading this - to hell with him. That is one of the dumbest most whiney things I've ever seen by a player over a contract. How petty is it possible to be?

So as if right now he's $17M poorer AND if he plays franchised this year he gets $12M right? So that's ANOTHER $5M he's losing this year had he just taken our best offer of $19m/year.

What an absolute moron.

I can live with a 2 and another pick for Yan. But as time goes on even that is becoming less likely.

Tonight tonight, hot damn tonight!

No trade, they'll rotate Chaisson and Yan like they did with Fowler and just wait it out. Assuming he signs his franchise tag that is.

While the chance of a trade for good 2020 picks has gone, is it still possible we make a player-for-player trade, perhaps including later 2020 picks?

Leonard Williams at the Giants? or maybe even Trent Williams?  (Probably with some day 3 picks to balance things out)

Have Yan play the year on the tag, tag him again next year. it's that simple, he's not getting out of Duval for less than a top 60 pick+ given the way he's acted I hope they don't let him hit free agency.
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

The most likely scenario, now, is that Yan stays on the Jags roster throughout the 2020 season, whether he plays or chooses to sit.
The next most likely scenario is he is traded for a 2021 pick. But that could happen anytime between now and the trade deadline. There's very little urgency.
The least likely scenario is a player for player trade.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

At this point I can see him sitting out but getting traded sometime later during the season for a team making a playoff push and needing one more piece on defense.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

playoff teams generally don't have millions in cap space needed for the trade, it is $1 million per game basically

Zero activity on Yann's twitter since the 27th of last month. Safe to say his twitter tirade failed miserably for him. Achieved nothing and helped him to alienate himself from his once rabid fans that chanted " Pay Yann" at the last home game. I was one of them.

Yeah.. not sure what he was going for but hopefully it will be a lesson he can learn from.. I know he most likely won’t be a jag but he seems like a pretty good kid who works his butt off. He will learn from this

I Concur that he's been silent since his Jalen Ramsey antics didn't get him what he wants.

A team trading anything of value for Yan would likely not do the trade unless they have come to an agreement with Yan on a new long term deal.  A playoff team can work the structure of the deal to make this year minimal on their cap if needed.

Covid is probably not helping either. The NBA already said expect the salary cap to be down 15-20% next year. NFL will probably drop significantly too. It's an extra treacherous time for a team to trade for a guy that's about to get a big payday.
