Davis Mills

There’s first round buzz around Mills. Pundits believe there would be a team willing to trade back into the first round. Let’s say New Orleans at 28 trades their 1 rounder and a 3rd to move up three spots for our 25th, would you take that deal? Maybe another team in the second? What scenario could you see us taking advantage of the Mills hype? And team.

1.  Yes I make that deal, especially if there is more than one prospect I like.  We don't have the same needs as Cleveland and Baltimore, and while it's possible, it isn't necessarily likely that a team would trade up to take a guy we'd want.  Having that extra 3rd round pick could give us the ammo we need to trade up into the second round if necessary, or gives us access to another player we'd want.

2.  I've heard the rumors of Mills climbing draft boards and sneaking into the bottom of the first round.  But under those circumstances, I'm not sure which teams would be in the running to make such a move.  Aside from the Saints, and maybe the Bucs to groom as a Brady replacement, I can't see too many teams within a reasonable range looking to trade up for him, because those picking at the top of the second round will likely already have gotten their QB at the top of the first.  Right now, Denver would seem like the most likely team to make such a move.  That's moving up one round and 16 spots from their 40th pick to our 25th.  I don't know if I move back that far unless they are talking some serious compensation.  According to the trade value chart, the cost would be a high 3rd round pick.  After Denver, you could consider New England or Washington, and the compensation there would be another current 2nd round pick (which neither team has) or next year's first rounder.

Unless one of those top 14-15 second tier players falls to 25 then of course. It's very flat once you get past them.

Maybe...maybe not.  I haven't paid any attention to him since it became clear we clinched the #1 overall pick.  But regardless of who you (not you specifically but as a fan/poster generally ) think is better or who the NFL teams think is better, I don't think the dynamic changes too much.

Agreed completely.

It seems every draft works out that way.  You have an elite upper most tier....maybe a second tier...then starting somewhere in the middle of the first round, there is another drop off and things sort of plateau between that point and mid to late 2nd round.

Mills, like Trey Lance, is an enigma to me. There just isn't enough of a sample size for me to accurately judge either one of them. Both of those guys could be amazing or a bust. I just don't know.
