This from a source considered by many to be honest journalism.

Interesting article.  What's wrong with it?

The republican party needs to publicly and loudly denounce Qanon as much as the democrats need to publicly and loudly denounce the progressives. Both parties are being hijacked by lunatics and the media will take advantage of it all. They have been.

I think candidates don't want to offend anyone who might vote for them.  So they make this calculation, "Do I get more votes by denouncing the extremists who might vote for me, or do I get more votes by not denouncing them?"  And with things being so polarized, they think their best bet is to keep everyone on their side on their side.  It's a cynical calculation, but that's politics I guess.

Most politicians claim to be "leaders," but what they really do is figure out where the crowd is going, then jump in front, wave the flag and say, "Follow me!"   Very few of them would take a principled stand that would cost them votes.
