Washington State Plans To Outlaw Most New Gas Cars

#1

It will never work, the strain created on the power grid will cause more problems then it's worth...... Not to mention the extra emissions created by the power companies.......

Washington State Plans To Outlaw Most New Gas Cars

Washington state is preparing to ban most new gasoline-powered vehicles within the next eight years.

Instead of a sign that says "Do Not Disturb" I need one that says "Already Disturbed Proceed With Caution."

“...all publicly owned and privately owned passenger and light duty vehicles of model year 2030 or later that are sold, purchased, or registered in Washington state be electric vehicles.”

They're actually not banning gas cars. They're banning the sale of new gas cars.

Thier power grid and charging infrastructure is not remotely close to ready for this move, nor will it be in slightly more than seven years.

On a side note, a friend who has lived in Seattle for many years is sick of the political stupidity he endures there on a daily basis.  He and his wife are already seriously considering a move back east, where he's originally from.  I expect this will tip the scale and he'll start packing soon.

On a speculative note, Gov. Inslee was an early presidential candidate in 2020, on a platform centered on climate change.  Who thinks he's going to try again in 2024, highlighting this piece of legislation?

They're talking about banning the sale of new gas cars in Washington State starting in 2030.

They could call it "The Idaho New Car Dealers Assistance Act." Or "The Washington State Used Car Dealers Assistance Act."

People will just go to another state if they really want to buy a brand new gas car. And it doesn't even start until 2030. So it's a whole bunch of nothing. Political posturing that means nothing in reality.

They would have more than 7 years to get their grid and charging stations ready because a Washington resident could buy a gas powered car in 2029 and keep it until 2039 or later.  The ban is on model year 2030 and later.

The Washington legislature will be able to look at the new car market in 2028 and 2029 and decide if the world is actually ready for this policy or not.  Some people theorize that electric cars already running today are going to last much longer than gas powered cars, because they have much fewer moving parts.  If that's true, by 2028 it may be obvious that electric cars are cheaper to own and a better investment.  So the demand will go up and the market will provide more.  In that case, the ban might make sense.  But if none of those things happen, the ban will be deferred or repealed and never go into effect.  They also may revise the ban to allow hybrid cars.

As for Inslee, I doubt he runs against Biden.  But in the unlikely case Biden doesn't run again, Inslee might be a contender.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

The ban prohibits the registration of a gas (presumably diesel fuel also) 2030 or newer models, not just the sale/purchase.  Going to another state to buy one doesn't help.
