But it's excuseable when you're throwing 4 tds and leading comeback drives. He only has 7 on the year which is awesome, only thing i'd like to see him work on now is the butter finger fumbles. It's the fantasy football effect. If a player doesn't "produce" in fantasy, they must suck. And if you don't "produce" in year 1 like Herbert, you must not be as good as him or have anywhere near his potential. Some of us could tell what we were watching in Lawrence last year. Like anything else, if your process is good, the end result (stats) will come eventually. Lawrence routinely kept his eyes down field, seemed unrattled in the pocket with chaos regularly inches away, could make every throw even the wow ones, took ownership of his results, never threw anyone under the bus etc. etc. etc.... He has been everything you want in a face of the franchise QB since day 1. The stats weren't necessarily consistently there last year and there's a number of reasons for that, but his process was already there and was getting better even last year though it wasn't necessarily showing up in the stat and win columns. He's not only the face of the franchise now, he's probably going to be one of a few face's of the league moving forward. Most football stats are really tied to more than one person. If you're a stat boy, baseball is better sport for looking at a stat sheet and being confident that the numbers you're looking at are pretty much the sole responsibility of the player they are generated by and assigned to. You have to watch football and understand what you're watching beyond the end result of the play to have informed opinions on how good a player is or will be. It's much easier to look at a baseball player's numbers and form conclusions on their ability without having watched them. |
