James Sample placed on IR

Hopefully this doesn't mean Evans makes the roster. I don't want that dude playing in even spot duty.

Quote:Yes, but they have to be designated as such when placed on IR.

Sample was not. He is done for the year.

Not anymore. We can simply activate him when he is cleared to practice. But why would we want to?

Probably not that bad. But the team didn't feel the need to wait around for him either and tie up a roster spot.

Unfortunately this is precisely what it at least appears to mean. A rough depth chart of the remaining Ss would look something like...

FS: Tashaun Gipson, Peyton Thompson, Jarrod Wilson

SS: Jonathan Cyprien, Josh Evans

The Thompson-Wilson battle for the final spot is as intense as it gets, but Evans appears safe. That is, unless they opt to waive Evans and start working out Wilson at SS

I had high hopes for Sample after the draft. 2 seasons with hardly any playing time though... the odds are stacked against him going into year 3.

I was looking forward to seeing Sample play this year. What's your opinion on him? Do you think he's worse than Cyprien?

I think he can be better than Cyp, but he's still raw by comparison.

I was rooting for Sample this off season. Sample really needed to have a good camp to challenge Cyp but he really didn't stand out. The injury was the final straw to any chance at challenging for playing time this season. Come next year there's a real possibility that the team brings in even more competition at the SS spot so it kind of feels like Sample blew his chance.

2013 was a lack luster 1st RD. I think only two superstars were maybe selected and the rest have been okay. The best OT taken was Lane Johnson that year by the Eagles but he's been popped twice now for sports enhancement use.

Not sure where you are getting this, but Thompson is your backup FS. Wilson will hang out on the practice squad.

Sign me up for that option if Wilson has another good outing vs the Falcons.
