First round of cuts

#1
(This post was last modified: 08-30-2016, 02:52 AM by BritishJag.)

Noteworth cuts so far:

Paul Kruger, DE, Browns

Terrance Knighton, DT, Patriots (former Jag)

Rueben Randle, WR, Eagles

Chris Givens, WR, Eagles

Mike Martin, DT, Eagles

Major Wright, S, Buccaneers

Jeremiah George, LB, Buccaneers (former Jag)

Storm Johnson, RB, Buccaneers (former Jag)

Ropati Pitoitua, DE, Titans

Blindi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Titans

Sergio Brown, S, Falcons (former Jag)

Stephen Hill, WR , Panthers

Drew Nowak, C, Chiefs (former Jag)

Lache Seastrunk, RB, Jets

Jeremy Harris, CB, Redskins (former Jag)

Geoff Schwartz, OL, Lions

Quinton Coples, DE, Rams

Rashaad Reynolds, CB, Lions (former Jag)
Brandon Browner, CB Seahawks
James Jones, WR, Chargers
Matt Elam, S, Ravens (expected)

I'll update as more are announced. An interesting one is Wreh-Wilson who was the other cornerback from Connecticut when we drafted Gratz. Both drafted in the 3rd round and both busted pretty hard.

Elam is a former first round strong safety who might be worth checking out if he is released as expected. He looked good in his rookie year but has regressed under a new DC.

Elam (like Mark Barron) might be a guy best utilized in a hybrid linebacker role, similar to how the Cardinals use Deon Bucannon, there are very few strong safeties that play well the further they are from the line of scrimmage.

Wasn't Elam a 1st round pick for the Ravens?

Every year there are "surprise cuts" and already the Eagles have done it. Who are you surprised got cut so far?

The Lions also cut two players that were with the Jaguars in the past:   CB Rashaad Reynolds and DE Quanterus Smith.

Detroit is not "Jacksonville North" anymore.

Not in terms of sheer numbers.   But in addition to Don Carey still being with the Lions,   the team hired Kyle O'Brien as Director of Player Personnel.    O'Brien was a key Assistant under Dave Caldwell until being hired by the Lions this past winter.    IMO,  this has significance in terms of roster decisions the Jaguars make this season.   Because O' Brien played a major role in the Jaguars drafts,   O'Brien might recommend one of the Jaguars cuts as a player the Lions should claim.   With the Lions currently thin at TE and LB because of injuries,   these are positions I'm paying close attention to in terms of what the Jaguars and the other 30 teams do this week.
