Patriots cut Dominique Easley

#21

Quote:If Belichick is cutting a first round draft pick, that's a problem. I don't care if it's low risk. If the guy doesn't take his NFL career seriously, he's not going to be a good fit for this roster.

I don't disagree that there is cause for concern here, but Belichick isn't infallible. You look into Easley and if in your eyes the positives outweigh whatever the negatives were that got him cut, you put a claim in for him. It's not likely that's going to be the case, but you still do your due diligence because he was a talented first round pick only two years ago.

Worth mentioning Easley chose not to be with team at Super Bowl his rookie year and told one teammate he didn't care if they won or lost

Heard Easley and Belichick/Coaches had a blowout after the Texans game. I'm told it was over his hip issue. Easley said it was minor..

Never knew this but can confirm @BenVolin report from this morn. that DE never wanted to be drafted by NE and was unhappy when NE picked him

Dominique Easley would have made less than $ 1.1 million in base salary in 2016 under the terms of his contract with the Patriots. The fact that none of the other 31 teams claimed him demonstrates that Easley has major baggage he needs to clean up in order to get his NFL career going in the right direction.

Local buzz (Boston) has him disliked by teammates, mouthy, uncooperative....would not do team-prescribed rehab, chose own rehab path to the chagrin of team, generally disruptive, always injured, IR both years in NFL...what's not to like?

Justin Blackmon was a talented first round pick just a few years ago. Sometimes they just don't pan out. There's no point in bringing in a guy who doesn't care enough about his NFL career to be professional. It doesn't matter how much talent there might be there. Belichick isn't infallible, but he's obviously right far more often than he's not. If he's cutting the guy, odds are pretty good he's not going to represent an upgrade for this team.
