Just read an interesting article about free agency, linking the last page, which talks about the tight end market here . Basically, it looks like Kelce , Ertz ,  and Allen signed deals around where Thomas was for us, and and Cook could get the same range or more. After seeing this, I am pretty happy we signed Thomas last year. Took a little while for him to get over the injury and in synch with Bortles, but I think the two will work well together for years. But with the market for tight ends escalating, I am wondering if we should invest a roster spot extra in a guy like Sterling or this years' version for depth. These contracts seem pretty high to me, and we might get really good return on our investment.

I am thinking they ask Sterling to put on 15 pounds and take over (compete for) the backup role that Clay Harbor had on the roster.

Julius Thomas was a great get for the Jags.


Keeping Lewis around while they develop a young TE2 seems like a solid strategy in the short term.


Any word on if they are trying to keep Harbor?


Seems they like Jacobs' blocking potential, but I wonder if they will try to find another threat in the passing game at the position. Certainly not a "priority need" and they may wait till 2017 to draft that player, but I'm curious how/when they'll do it.

Jacobs is basically a poor man's Lewis. He's got a spot as long as he can drive defenders off the ball.

 

Sterling is still listed as a WR. You'd think they would have switched him last year if they were going to do so. I think it's more likely that Koyack gets a shot at that spot, or even that Harbor is brought back.
