The Dolphins would be wise to remove the transition tag on Vernon

Quote:I don't think they look like goofballs. They put it on him to keep him. Knowing it was a long shot they reconstructed a couple contracts and released a player in hopes of possibly matching. Signing Williams nips it in the bud. No need for Vernon now. Might as well get the draft pick.

I guess we see/ saw the likelihood of them being able to pull off keeping him as very different.

Signing Williams and letting Vernon go would be a wash as far as compensatory picks are concerned.

They only give compensatory picks if you net a loss in free agency.

They spent $16 mil on Williams. I think Vernon will be a bit more.

They would be wiser to remove Stephen Ross from the owner's box.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Quote:If they remove it and another team signs him (they're going to lose Vernon regardless), they'll get draft pick compensation. It's a no brainer.

Quote:True, but this is the Dolphins we're talking about here.
Exactly. They signed a DT to QB money.

Really? When Suh signed he instantly became one of the leagues highest paid players. Higher then defensive ends, a lot of QB's. More then JJ Watt.

To compare the contracts this offseason with last, you have to take into consideration the large influx in money available due to the spending to the cap and the available money alotted to the cap now. Given that, Jackson is getting $42 million gauranteed. That is significantly less then Suh, Watt, and any more and this is pre spending to a certain percentage of cap and crazy cap increase.

Also when guys like Wilkerson, Miller get their deals, they will proly dwarf this contract. By free agency next year this will look like a solid contract especially if he produces like we think he will.

Dolphins removed transition tag. Dave better get him NOW.

If we get him, this will be without a doubt a slam dunk free agency. Then we draft Ramsey(Lets all hope he is there) and the secondary looks a little better too. This should be a top 15 defense!
