Another team makes their choice.  Just a few left to go.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

On the surface,  very good decision by the Giants.

The Giants strength in recent times clearly has been their Offense.   Now,  they have continuity on that side of the ball.

Kind of surprising, but not entirely. His hiring a few years back screamed of being Coughlin's heir apparent. It just seems a bit odd to force Coughlin out so they could promote his lieutenant. McAdoo's actual coaching prowess remains a bit unseen. He lucked into Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, then Eli Manning in New York. He worked under an offensive whiz in Green Bay, and under a man who knows a thing or two about offense in Tom Coughlin later on.

Of course, there were similar criticisms of the Mike McCarthy hire in Green Bay, and we all know how that worked out.

And he's keeping Spags to run the defense from what I've heard.  The Giants front office is clearly stating that the last 4 years was all on Coughlin.

Or they felt like they'd lose McAdoo to a HC position elsewhere if they didn't promote him into the role now.

Looking at this from a Giants perspective,   because Ben McAdoo used a different Offense than the one used prior to that during Tom Coughlin's time with the team,   I think the team brass is confident that McAdoo is largely responsible for the results the Giants got on Offense.   Of course,  their Offense looked light years better with Odell Beckham Jr.  than he was sidelined.

Yeah, Manning to OBJ will make any offense look better.

At the same time,  G.M. Jerry Reese is on the hot seat in 2016 because of his overall personnel decisions in recent seasons.   The OBJ selection in 2014 likely saved Reese's job for at least one more year.   Between injuries and personnel mistakes,  Spags didn't have much to work with in 2015.

Reportedly,  the Eagles were going to hire Ben McAdoo as their new HC if the Giants didn't..

That is what I read. The Eagles had a strong interest in Ben McAdoo. However the Giants did interview other coaches before promoting McAdoo and had one scheduled with Hue Jackson before he took the Browns job.

  For sure.

The Giants Offense w/o OBJ in the SNF game in Minnesota in late December struggled mightily.

One key question with the Giants in 2016 is can Victor Cruz regain his pre-injuries form?

Ruben Randle has been too inconsistent and is an UFA.    The Giants probably will make a significant addition at WR in the coming months.

That game confirmed what many people knew already: that the Giants offense can't survive without #13. They are dying to get Victor Cruz back

Why in the world did they decide to retain Spagnuolo? Their defense sucks. The Giants should have let Ben McAdoo hire his own DC.

I don't think Tom Landry,  Bill Belichick,  and Bud Carson in their primes as Defensive Coordinators would have had good results with the Giants Defensive personnel situation in 2015.

None of those guys could be as bad as who the Giants have now.

The sad thing is JPP can't sack quarterbacks with a huge cast on his right hand. He would still be a great DE without it.

Spags would have looked like a much better Defensive Coordinator if JPP didn't suffer the fireworks hand injury and the Giants had him all season.

For sure. The Giants missed him all season before the Buccaneers game. I hope he can get that big cast removed soon.
