Jason Myers misses (2) more PATs... 6 for the year and WORST in the NFL

Shhh... This team may actually think burning 2 roster spots on Kickers is a good idea.

Bullock plays for the Jets as of Nov 10th and is 6/6 on FGS and 11/11 on PATS. He missed 2 XPs earlier this year for Houston but has been clutch for the Jets.

Quote:There is legitimately no one to bring in with any experience that anyone would trust on their team this year. Scobee is still injured.

The best "off your couch" kicker available is Bullock. Sure he could be a fill in for now, but he doesn't have a leg for anything longer than ~45. He is not a long term fix.

Might as well stick with the kid (Myers) for the rest of the season and then address it.

With kickoffs from the 35, there's really no excuse for keeping a "long-range" kicker/kickoff specialist anymore. If your kicker can't hit the endzone from the 35, you need a punter who can kick off.

Why attempt long fields goals anyway.  Our d can't stop anyone.  Might as well give Bortles a chance to convert (maybe even a third of them).

I'm over the lust for a kicker who is consistent AND can occasionally bomb a long one.  Give me a kicker who nails everything under 45 and of course every PAT.

With Bullock signed there's literally nobody left to sign who can possibly even challenge Myers. I don't see him going anywhere this season, and I picture him doing almost nothing but working on 33-yard FGs this offseason.

BTW, the first missed extra point looked to me like it was in. It was over the top of the goal post, and if any part of the ball would have touched any part of the post, they're supposed to call that in. Of course the ref has the best view possible, but as I look at it, that one looked good to me. It was a really close call. The second miss was lower around midway up the post, although it was a good yard outside.

It's tough to watch this keep happening, but I'm still seeing team after team after team missing these PATs every week. It's unreal how many are being missed leaguewide. Just in these past two weeks there were two other kickers who missed two PATs in one game. And btw, the league is now up to 26 kickers who have missed at least one PAT this season. Meanwhile, 15 kickers have missed at least two, and 9 kickers have missed at least three.

Actually, PATs aside, I believe Myers has connected on every FG attempt under 45 yards except for that one shank under 30 yards that the Ravens are claiming they blocked.

Well, it is becoming harder to defend Myers isn't it. It's one thing for a rookie kicker to miss outrageously long field goal attempts, after all, they generally don't occur that often (at least one would hope). The ability to consistently make the extra point after a touch down, on the other hand, has to be regarded as something to count on. Making the occasional long field goal doesn't justify missing 6 XP's so far, not to mention the critical game losing missed field goals he's had. The 2 missed XP's in the tacks game were momentum changers that hurt. Considering his record, I'm a little surprised he wasn't cut immediately following that game.

Bottom line... this dude isn't a reliable kicker; he just doesn't live up to professional level expectations. He might be a really nice kid, I don't know; but that isn't the point... production is the issue. I can see us keeping him the rest of the season, I guess, since we apparently don't have anyone who could step in right now whom were confident would be better. After this season is over though, I would expect him to be cut and then for us to use the off season to go out and recruit a better kicker from somewhere. Please.

Fun fact for the day:  Myers is now at 7 missed PATs (32/39)... still the most in the league.

On the bright side, Dan Carpenter has missed 5 (33/38) and is almost as bad.

So in other words all those missed pats only result in the loss of one touchdown?

That's not so bad. Not sure why do many people are freaking out about this.

The two missed XPs in the Tennessee game were glaring and completely changed the offensive approach in a shoot out game causing us to go for 2 and not converting. He also missed an extra point and 2 FGs against the colts in a game that went to OT. Pretty big deal if you ask me.

This. We're 2 kicks away from 7-9 and a week 17 showdown for the division and the playoffs. There have been dozens of kickers cut for much less.

I will say it's getting harder to defend the guy right now...

I'm all for giving guys time to get things "right" either physically or mentally.  But, Myers has been TERRIBLE all season.  Consistently terrible.

Hopefully, we can stop with the CFL guys going forward.

Last week a bunch more PATs were missed league-wide, and I notice as much virtually every week. It's crazy.

I keep thinking back to when Scobee had a bad season early on and there was talk of cutting him. He talked to an expert about it and learned that he was kicking ever kick at full strength, and that by easing off the shorter kicks his accuracy improved dramatically. He was gold for years afterward. I see the same thing with Myers where I'm convinced he can improve his accuracy by easing off on the shorter kicks. I notice his PATs are often at or over the top of the uprights. There's no need to kick them that hard.

Myers FG stats are still incredibly competitive if you can somehow overlook that one ugly shank from under 30 against the Ravens which they're claiming they blocked. Aside from the PATs, he's really been good. I know this doesn't excuse his league-worst PAT kicking, but it makes me think this is the one thing that if he works on and corrects, dude could be a totally stud kicker. He certainly has the leg strength, and his 58-yard game winner is still one of the best kicks league-wide.

Definitely bring in some competition this offseason and may the best Kicker win the job. I'm just saying it wont' shock me that if Myers figures out how to nail these PATs, he might just have what it takes to beat out any and all challengers to the spot next year.
