Therefore, in fan logic, Yeldon = Toby
Toby ran 40 yard dash in 4.40 and Yeldon ran it in 4.61 so Toby at least was faster at one point.

Seattle fans compared TJ Yeldon to a possible new Marshawn Lynch that is what Gus Bradley is hoping he can coach him to be...

As for the Jaguars, they need all the help they can get after finishing 3-13 last season.

Yeldon made his case for why he should be picked.

“I have good vision, good cutting,” Yeldon said. “I can catch the ball out of the backfield. I can split out wide and catch the ball. It just depends on how they want to use me in their offense.”

I dunno about him being a MLynch he seems more like a Marshall Faulk type of HB

If he IS the new Lynch, lets hope he doesn't suck with his first team and dominate with his second..
I never saw anything close to that kind of speed out of Toby.....

besides he may be faster....for about  the first three feet but then he stops.....its over.

Go look at what TJ has done and watch some film. No comparison at all. Zero. None.

Good point.. The more I watch him and read on him I dont think he's like Lynch...

This is from Rotoworld...

Yeldon (6'1/226) outplayed Eddie Lacy as a true freshman before emerging as Alabama's lead back as a sophomore and junior, finishing his career with 3,322 yards and 37 TDs on 576 carries (5.77 YPC), along with 46 catches. Yeldon ran 4.61 at the Combine, but improved to 4.52/4.53 at his Pro Day. A downhill zone runner with smooth, gliding foot movement, Yeldon has some Le'Veon Bell to his game. He's a "singles and doubles" rather than home-run hitter and one of the top pass-protecting backs in this draft. Yeldon gained five-plus yards on 46 percent of his 2014 carries, the highest rate in this year's class despite facing the toughest schedule. He has all the tools of an NFL every-down back. Yeldon is set up for immediate fantasy success as the Jags' new feature back, pushing Denard Robinson into a change-of-pace role and Toby Gerhart to H-back.
Heck we got one of the best RB's out of Ala freakin' bama......what more do you guys want?

That's a pretty simple way to look at it.  Comparison's to speed should only be illustrative, they are different kinds of backs.  But no one can deny that speed is one crucial element in a top flight running back.
People are comparing this guy to Lynch? I saw someone else say he was a power back? Do people just look at his weight and form opinions about him without watching him play a down? You cannot watch him play and call him a power back. It would be similar to calling Drew a scat back later in his career because he was short. Its just not how the guy plays.

Yep, in essence, it's no different than the guys who just look at those dumb spider charts.
What to know (and like) about Yeldon:

<a class="bbc_url" href='https://twitter.com/PFF_NateJahnke' title="External link">Nathan Jahnke ‏@<b>PFF_NateJahnke</b> </a>

T.J. Yeldon had 48 players miss tackles on his carries; tied for 6th most among power 5 draft eligible HBs

But even better is the rest of the story...

TJ Yeldon finished with the best elusive rating in the draft class against Power-5 competition

I think that pretty much shows we've got someone who could be special.

And before we get our panties further in a bunch, Emmitt Smith ran a 4.70.  Another slippery back who rarely took a direct hit, too.

Toby wishes he ran a 4.40.

Then you put the pads on and talk game speed and shiftiness and yeldon makes Gerhart look like red Bryant
Quote:Toby wishes he ran a 4.40.
He does have straight line speed, his problem is that he was hurt and playing injured most of last year. When you see clips of him from Minn. you can tell his best style is to build up steam and just out-momentum people because he is big and fast. He isnt strong enough to stiff people or bursty enough to hit fast holes, but he can break some tackles once he gets a head of steam. The problem is that his forte is just too precarious to rely on.
Toby ran a 4.53.  You can look/play slow at a 4.53.  Playing slow at a 4.40 is pretty difficult.

Not saying Toby plays as slow as people hyperbolate (Yes, I made that word up).

Toby and TJ are probably very similar top end speed.  TJ is a little quicker, smoother, and has better feet.  TJ is neither a bruiser nor a burner - he's pretty much middle of the road.

I think Toby is plenty strong.  He can certainly stiff arm people.  His issue is that unless he has momentum, he can't re-accelerate and then there are 3 people tackling him.
Probably has the best vision out of all the RB's in this draft. Not as physical, more of an elusive/finesse runner, but still extremely talented. Hope he'll out-perform Gurley and Gordon.

Quote:That's a lot of wear and tear on a position that doesn't last very long.
OMG
Quote:He was my least favorite of the highly touted backs... High mileage, slower back. He's a slightly better Toby...

I don't see any of this being correct. He played in a RB by committee with three other backs and still rose to the top. There are plenty of miles left on those tires. He also has better vision and anticipation, not to mention better agility than Toby. Toby is north/south only... Yeldon is a bruiser that also has side to side agile movement.
I'd like to nick name him "Rebel Yel-don"

Quote:Went back watched more of Yeldon. Reminds me greatly of Arian Foster. Big, smooth, great catcher of the football, good feet and hips, sees things happen before they happen. LOVE TJ Yeldon

I don't see the Arian Foster comparison. Foster looks for a gap, then takes one hard cut and goes for it. He doesn't have an arsenal of moves like Yeldon.

Several RBs in this year's draft have been compared to Lynch. In many cases I just don't get it, but I do see why with Yeldon. When Yeldon gets near the goal line, he literally becomes BEASTMODE. There's simply no stopping him as he'll do whatever it takes to score.
