Quote:Toby ran 40 yard dash in 4.40 and Yeldon ran it in 4.61 so Toby at least was faster at one point.

That's not entirely accurate. Toby's official combine time was a 4.53, and he never did run at his pro day. Now there's a fastest and slowest 40 that goes into that official time, and his fastest 40 was a 4.40 while his slowest was a 4.61. Unfortunately I'm not finding the fastest and slowest 40s for Yeldon. Yeldon's official combine time was a 4.61, although his official pro day time was a 4.53. In other words, they basically ran the same going into the draft.

That said, this should be fast enough. Look at defensive guys who run in the 4.5s to 4.6s and you're talking Ss and OLBs. So only CBs are really going to chase down Yeldon from behind, and if you watch him run guys coming at him from behind tend to dive at him and slip right off.

Quote:I'd like to nick name him "Rebel Yel-don"

I like that!!

I'd like to throw my hat in for "The Yeldon Submarine"
Quote:I'm too lazy to pull the other draft eligable RBs stats but I'm curious if these could be considered outliers or not. Also its worth mentioning that he shared time with other running backs and I don't believe the same could be said about the 3 you highlighted.

Good point.  Being an Auburn fan I have watched plenty of SEC football.  What some on the MB are missing is that although TJ's numbers might have declined over the three year period, so did Alabama's overall offensive production.  This can have an impact on an otherwise consistently good RB.  I must admit that I was not exactly thrilled by the selection, but I will take the wait and see approach with this pick.  My gut tells me he will be a pretty good back in the Jag's system.

and last year with lane kiffin they relied on the pass more
The more I read about Yeldon and how high other teams rated him,the more I like him.
If healthy, Yeldon does appear to be the complete RB.  I wanted Tevin Coleman due to his production (and not fully realizing Yeldon was banged up last year ... resulting in much lower production).  Apparently he had foot, ankle, and hamstring issues

I'm ok with the pick assuming TJ Yeldon is healthy once again.

My sentiments as well .....
Quote:Several RBs in this year's draft have been compared to Lynch. In many cases I just don't get it, but I do see why with Yeldon. When Yeldon gets near the goal line, he literally becomes BEASTMODE. There's simply no stopping him as he'll do whatever it takes to score.
Sounds like we got a great hb to compete with drob
Most analysts, after Yeldon was picked, said he was a "late riser". That leads me to believe he was viewed more favorable by NFL teams than he was by draft analysts.

Somtimes with hard work they can improve their 40 (especially when a 100% healthy as shown with the rookie's proday).
Funny to me that before the draft, we all talked about almost every RB besides Yeldon. It was all Gurley, Gordon, Ajayi, Johnson, Coleman, Cobb, etc.

FOR ME, It was really hard to get past the 4.0 yards per carry last year + the fact that Ingram & Richardson fizzled out of the NFL pretty quickly.  That said, I really  didn't place much stock in the fact that he was banged up last year or the fact that he could pick up blitzes and provide a complete RB package "when healthy".

Everybody is comparing this dude to LaVeon Bell.   Interesting !!

Not complaining but Coleman was/is still my favorite so I will be interesting to see how this plays out.
i'll feel better when I see him run over a safety that doesn't get low.

He ran for 5.0 yards per carry last year.  He was arguably the better back between him and Lacy when they were both playing there.

I like the fact that when he does spring into the second level he doesn't really BS out there like run out of bounds or try and dance. It's all straight line, with some elusiveness and putting the head down for extra yards. He's definitely going to start week 1 for us.
If they can teach him to run behind his pads more he could become a real star. He has great agility for such a big dude, but doesnt run as powerful as he should for someone his size.

Ingram did not have a good start to his career but actually had a solid year in 2014. Earned a second contract from the Saints.

He's pretty tall and thin cut.  If he can add 12-15 pounds of muscle and play at 235-240 he may be able to add some power to his game.

He needs to bulk up to Leveon Bell's size or even heavier since he's a lot leaner upper body.

Dave and Gus mentioned the long torso he has. Definitely room for upgrade.
