Actually he can't re-enter the draft,
i feel like he will be angry for awhile but have to have some type of income at some point, he would sign eventually. PS he will be drafted today

Yes he can.
Quote:I would love him, but i'm scared he might not sign and re-enter the draft, and then its a wasted pick, now if you can convince him to sign then yes take him

if they can call and convince him ahead of time, then by all means.
Quote:Yes he can.

If he's undrafted he can't though.

Bo Jackson begs to differ
If you get drafted you can sit out and re enter. If you go undrafted you are not able to re enter the next year.

No he can't.  He went undrafted, you don't get to re-enter the draft every year after you had your chance.

He's a FA now.

If he could, there would be no UDFAs because everyone would just go back into the next draft.
He's gonna sign once he is clear

If he's innocent then hopefully the guy can get past all this and sign the best possible contract.
Anyone think there's a chance he wants to play in Jax? That would really be the cherry to top off a great draft if we could sign him. I highly doubt it though.

Seeing as how we won't be able to outbid other teams I'm guessing he chooses a top team.
Think we'll make a push to sign him if everything checks out okay? It would be quite the finishing touch on an already great rookie class if we managed to land a consensus 1st round talent as a UDFA. To top it off, you can bet he comes in seriously motivated to make coin on that second contract.

He has to look at depth charts. That would be his #1 focus IMO - not team record. He wants to maximize his second contract, and he won't be able to do that if he doesn't see much of the field.
I read somewhere that a team can get creative in what they offer after an UDFAs rookie year. Something about they get 3 year deals typically, and although not much can be done to outbid for him, a GM could get creative in what they offer after year 1.

I'll look for the article. It was a late and drunken night after that awful boxing match. All that $ and hype, and not even ONE knockdown?! Pffffft. That fight was 5 years too late anyway. /end rant

I agree but I think he can find a good team that would start him. Plenty of top teams that would use him as a starting RT or G.

he actually probably wouldnt even start here. so i agree with what youre saying. there might be some teams that would even start him at LT out there.

but joeckel is going to get his shot and i have really high hopes he will be very good this year.
I can't see Collins picking Jacksonville if he's innocent and cleared.. Would be nice if I was wrong, but I'm not holding my breath..

After he's cleared, he'll pick either the team that pays him the most (which won't be much because of the rookie pool) or the team that gives him the best chance to play immediately and get a big extension in a couple of years. I don't expect the Jaguars to be the leaders in either category.

So I realize there is a max UDFA signing bonus pool for each team that is approximately $90k, but are there restrictions on what his salary could be as an UDFA? I haven't found anything definitive that says one way or another. I'm guessing there is a max or guys could collaborate with a team that they want to go with before the draft or do what La'el did and threaten not to sign and scare teams away from drafting them so they fall into the undrafted category where they could conceivably get a better contract than the slotted ones through the draft. Either way, I'd love to see the rules regarding this if anyone has found it. I'm sure there will be some clarification of any gray areas coming from the league for future drafts as well.
Just found this article which sheds some light.
