Yeah, you have to feel bad for the kid if he didn't do it, but as an NFL team you have to err on the side of caution.
He'll still be making a good paycheck in the NFL for a few years. Hopefully he's a good player and go get paid on his second contract.
as a udfa, a team should still pay him like a 2nd or 3rd round pick imo

not allowed under current CBA rules
Cowboys sign him to a 3 year deal
So the league's best OL just got a free first rd OT?

The guy was a free agent. It just seems like a stupid pick to go to that team. Of all teams, the chance of you getting playing time there isn't high (Depending on contracts and when they expire)

Dallas guaranteed his entire contract. Might have played a role in his decision.
Dallas probably also paid him under the table.

wow. even if they were pretty confident he will be cleared, thats pretty crazy.

Wellllll...they did also sign Randy Gregory and Greg Hardy.

I cannot imagine the money, guaranteed or otherwise, was much different. If the goal is to play early, his decision is curious.

And brought back Josh Brent.

If they like him at OT I think he can replace Doug Free really early if not immediately. If they like him at OG he can battle with Ronald Leary and see what happens.
I think it was a good move on his part and I think he knows he'll be playing early.
i have some questions and hope someone who understands how things work can tell me.
If so many teams wanted him after the draft why didn't anyone take him the 7th? WOuld taking him have allowed him to reenter next year much like the baseball draft does? If he threated not to sign could the team hold his rights forever?
I thought that each team got a set amount to sign UD Rookie FA's like $100k in signing bonus to split amongst them all.
What is the salary of of 5th rounder and later over three years is it more or less than the 1.67 mil guarented he is getting from the cowgirls?
He probably grew up a Dallas fan. I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry told him he'd be starting by next year if not earlier even if it doesn't come true.

A team that drafted him.would.hold his rights for 1 year.
By getting drafted, he could refuse to sign and re enter the 2016 draft.
By not getting drafted, he cannot go into next year's draft.
A team could have/should have thrown a 7th at him to call his possible bluff and make a team spend a 2nd or 3rd on him next year.

Yes.

Yep. You play for me or you play for no one this year... unless Dallas wants to trade for your rights. Someone should have taken him in the 7th especially teams that had multiple 7th round picks like we did. Also, the other NFC East teams have to be kicking themselves for not pulling the trigger now that he signed with Dallas. I'd spend a 7th rounder to keep a 1st round talent away from one of my rivals.

ok, no doubt. thanks
