I don't watch much college football but one name I remember hearing a lot back in the fall early on was Cody Pruitt. He was supposed to be our ball hawking, centerfield FS and was touted on here as a 1st rd pick.
Haven't heard much of him at all lately. What happened to him?
Still good? Not good any more? Never was good? Draft worthy? Unworthy? Potential starter? Potential Costco Logistics Team Member? Going back to school? Going back to Cali? Going to the League?

Media perceived to slide pretty far. Maybe late 2-4th rd. Idk if that's going to be the case but I kind of hope he does slide all the way to the 3rd for us.
I think he clocked a slow time at the combine but I've watched him play and think he would be a really good pick in the 3rd.
I was high on Prewitt early in the college season after watching part of one Ole Miss game. He went on the turn in 2 or 3 poor performances as the season wore on and his stock dropped for me and among the draftniks.
I think he's a late second - early third-rounder as of now.
His style of play suits Gus' ideals - but his skill set (particularly speed, cover skills) may be lacking a bit to play that center-field role at a high level.
Didn't he also get some time during the Senior Bowl week? I don't seem to remember too much "buzz" around his name at that time. Then again, I'm kinda dum.
Prewitt would be a good pick if we didn't already have Cyprien.
As I stated way back in Sept/Oct...there was a reason he was nearly moved to LB his sophomore year...His speed.
He has good instincts and a rib injury kinda hurt him at the end of the season but he in no way shape or form possesses the range Gus' scheme requires for the FS.
I'm really not sure what we can do about Free Safety now. Obviously McCourtey would have solved the problem (or maybe Gipson) but that wasn't possible. So now it's the draft...
Prewitt doesn't seem to be rated too highly any more, but there's not much else to pick from.
Derron Smith ? Kurtis Drummond ? Chris Hackett ? Anthony Harris ? None of them sound like massive upgrades on what we have.
I guess we just have to take a late round punt on someone...
I say we draft a cb and convert him to FS
Remember just because a guy isnt a high pick or prospect doesnt mean he wont be good, FS position is down but we could find a mid round gem in this draft
Damarious Randall. I'm surprised he's not talked about more.

Not trying to be mean or anything, but what do you like about him?
I watched his one game on draft breakdown a week or so ago and was far from impressed.

He's probably the best center fielder in this draft. He has the speed to play as the deep safety, can make up ground if he gets beat, and has the skills to play nickel CB on 3rd down. He's an aggressive tackler, plays with a high motor, and has a knack for causing turnovers. He would absolutely thrive in this defense and only played 2 years at ASU spending his freshman and junior years at JUCO. He's still growing as a player and will get better from here. He was the best safety on the field at the senior bowl outshining the aforementioned Prewitt.
This is from his CBS draft profile:
Quote:STRENGTHS: Above average speed for the position with transitional quickness and natural footwork. Highly aggressive and plays at full speed at all times. Never gives up on plays and has a knack for chasing down ballcarriers downfield from behind. Understands angles and sees things happening quickly. Decisive sideline angles with closing burst to make up ground. Good anticipation to jump routes, reading the quarterback and baiting throws.
Heady awareness and won't fall asleep at the wheel. Adequate ballskills and knows what to do with the ball once he gains possession (six career interceptions, averaging 29.8 yards per return with two touchdowns). Plays bigger than he looks and initiates the action, seeking out contact with a violent mentality to strike through his target. Plays ticked off and sets the tempo. Unselfish team-first type with ideal training habits.
Played on special teams coverages at Arizona State with experience as a return man. Productive starter in only two seasons at the FBS level, creating 10 turnovers (six interceptions, four forced fumbles).

There are a few candidates that fit that bill. Eric Rowe being one of them.

Aggressive tackler? That's the farthest thing Randall is. He's extremely soft and looks completely scared to hit somebody. Below average tackler imo. He also got completely turned around and got beat multiple times in the game vs Oregon state. Looks like a gerod Holliman clone.
Watch this game and I guarantee you won't feel the same way about him.

Holliman would be second on my wish list FWIW but his tackling (or lack thereof) and questionable football character really scares me.

I hope you're not basing your opinion of him after one game.

That's how bad this one game really is. Reminds me of don carey. To think we would play single high with him is simply terrifying.

Judging this game, i wouldn't even spend a draft pick on him. It was that bad. Maybe he has better games. For his sake i hope so. Yikes.
Prewitt is a perfect balance when it comes to the safety position. Aggressive hitter and good ball skills..bbut due to the extreme balance, his NFL Center field skill is a bit lacking in terms of what we need (Earl Thomas). That being said, I still think he can play the FS position at this level. He gained weight steadily throughout his college career. Freshman year, it was said around college that he was possibly the fastest player on the team. His sliding could work out well for us
