So how high would you guys draft Gregory now?

2nd?

3rd round?

Lower?

Is he off your board?

1st RD - Williams

2Nd rd - best RB hopefully Gordon

3Rd Rd- Gregory if available.

The kid is still talented and lol if telvins thing was a one time thing. He just got caught and was smart enough to vanish and keep it clean ala scared straight style.

No way would I take him off my board, there's too much potential.  I'd probably be good with a 4th round pick.  At that point you aren't taking day 1 starters and looking more towards development guys anyway.  If he fails another test, then parting with a 4th round pick is probably worth the risk.

This doesn't sound like a one time thing.  I like that he's being honest, but he actually manages to make it sound like he was addicted to pot.
I don't think Jaguars were likely to take him anyways, but now I think there is no chance...

I think the team should be careful not to overreact to the positive test.

On the one hand, it is troubling that a player would test positive at the combine.  Given the issues we have had with Blackmon, I would understand the reluctance to bring someone on board who tested positive for marijuana at the combine.

On the other, if we suppose Gregory is a legitimate top ten talent independent of the positive test, how much should the positive test sway the team away from him?  IIRC, Warren Sapp tested positive for marijuana at the combine and it caused him to drop from a likely top 5 pick to 11th or so.  He didn't seem to have any issues with marijuana subsequent to that, and wound up with a pretty good career.   Telvin Smith tested positive and fell to the 5th round, and he played great for us.

Well, it is illegal.  If I came to work high, I'd imagine it would effect my work output.  The NFL would be the same way.

Again, if a player doesn't have the will power to not smoke weed for a couple months, do you really want him on your team?  A lot of the guys that have been tested and caught at the combine have proven to have issues in their NFL career.

Exactly.  Many of them probably don't care, but you have to be a complete idiot to get caught.

Agreed.  I honestly could not care less if any of these guys smoke.  I don't see it being any worse than having a few beers, especially in areas that it is legal.  I just don't want them to get caught doing it.  Gregory seems to struggle with that concept.  If he can't stop smoking when he knows 100% that he'll be tested in a couple months, how can you trust him?  Hard to invest even a day 2 pick into someone like that.

It's legal in some states (which only makes the policy dumber).  And he didn't necessarily come to work high.  He claims he last smoked pot in December 2014.

To answer your question.  Yes.  I personally wouldn't care.  It's just a bad decision and I don't see how you base an entire evaluation on it. The policy is a bad policy if teams only care about if you broke the policy or not and care nothing about the actual policy.  The risk of suspensions is the deal breaker.
If Gregory falls into the 4th round, even with a failed test, there's 32 idiot GM's in the NFL..

Maybe. But it's the policy and the players know it. It's just ignorant to simply ignore it and cost yourself millions of dollars possibly. It shows that they don't have the maturity and intelligence to ignore certain things in life to better themselves and their future. I'd pass on this guy unless he drops to the 4th or 5th. By then, he'd realize his mistakes and could learn that you don't make these kinds of decisions. If someone drafts him in the 1st or 2nd, it will become a recurring issue; i.e Blackmon, Matt Jones, Josh Gordon, etc...

GO JAGS!!

So because its legal for anyone to smoke it in a few states, its dumb for the NFL to have that policy?  In the large majority of the states to this point, its illegal.  I'm never going to change your mind because when someone smokes, they smoke and any law against it they think is stupid....because it goes against what they want to do.

If I owned a business, I would not allow my employees to come to work high.  You and I both know work output would decrease significantly if someone was high while working.
I'd still take Gregory top 10.

I would still draft him in the 2nd.

I've never smoked pot, if that's what you're saying.  And my opinion on the issue is the popular opinion as far as I know.  I actually think laws and policies should have a purpose. And once again, he didn't "come to work high", so I don't know why you keep saying that.
