This guy is picking up a lot of steam as a top 5 draft pick, and if he goes in the top 5 it will most likely be us taking him. Scouts, NFL.com, and CBS Sports all have him as a top 3-5 player in this draft now, and the praise on him is nearly universal. As a prospect he is a lot like Jonathan Allen in terms of being a tweener that will likely play on the outside on run downs and move inside for pass downs. Allen is bigger though, so he could play 4-3 DT straight up. Thomas appears to be far more explosive though. My comparison for him is Michael Bennett. He would be an instant upgrade on the DL for us. Allen and he are really 1a and 1b for our picks for my money right now, Coughlin will probably love them both and see a clear role for them on the team.
Also, David Shaw is predicting him to blow up the combine, saying he will measure in at 6'3'' 270-275 and run in the high 4.5s and VJ near 40. If he does that at that size density and posts a good 3 cone/SS take him yesterday.
Agree 100% I've been watching his cut ups on draft breakdown and he's super disruptive. Doesn't handle the double team as well as Allen but he's quicker. He's the guy we wished odrick was supposed to be.

once draft season really gets into full swing hell start getting media attention and after the combine which i believe hell do well in, hes gonna be the guy were looking towards and Im totally okay with that. But gotta see what we do in FA first.
As far as being a clean (we think) prospect right now, he's #2 on my list right now behind Adams. Everyone else in the #4 range has injury or character red flags, not that those red flags will automatically take them out of the running obviously.
Yup, I'd put my money on Thomas being the pick. He good, and will likely blow up the combine.
I will say that despite the obvious goodness he provides, he does disappear for much longer stretches than Jon Allen does.

He was the focal point of their DL. You can't scheme 100% of the time against Allen because you have 10 other NFL players to worry about. From what i saw Thomas was getting schemed agaisnt a lot more than Allen.
I can get on board with him at number four but part of me would almost wanted to cut a little bit of weight to get quicker and just keep him at the edge or outside linebacker
He plays a more premium position and I like his game but he is not an elite prospect IMO. Give me the elite prospect in Adams or Fournette

Nah, he is a special force rushing from the inside, I'd keep him exactly as he is. Have him on the edge on run downs and move him inside to rush the passer.

He's a different cat that people will look back on as a trailblazer, like Aaron Donald. He's not elite in the conventional sense that he is exactly what you look for in a specific position, but he has a set of traits and skills that will make him a monster at the next level regardless. Michael Bennett 2.0.
I've been thinking Thomas couldn't bend the edge because Standford didn't have him rush the tackle from the outside a lot, but I just saw him do it back to back against UNC. Draft the man.
I'll admit to only seeing cut ups, but I see some Lamarr Woodley.

He's like 20 pounds bigger than woodley

I don't see this at all. Donald was an elite prospect, won almost every award, and dominated his senior year. I think Thomas will be a good player in the league but I think Adams and Fournette in a few years will be the best players at their positions

Haven't seen much of him but he is interesting. I will have to keep a closer eye on him.
I think picking in the top 5 you ideally want a clean prospect with both a high floor and a high ceiling. By clean, I'm talking about injuries and off the field stuff.
We will see but Thomas looks like he's got a lot of those traits.

Thomas dominated his junior year. Either way, Thomas is one of the best 5 players in this draft and I'd rather take him than a position that is less important like safety and running back.

I guess we have 2 different definitions for the word dominant. Thomas had a very good season but he didn't dominate like Donald did his last year in college. AD was almost unblockable, he just fell a little in the draft because of his height.

Agreed. Thomas is a good player, but in no way, shape or form is he anywhere near a top 5 pick. A truly dominant player can be a star on his own. Thomas is the kind of guy who will need a solid D-Lineman on the line with him to reach his full potential.
