Writing was on the wall, Ordrick is a better against the run and offers pass rush ability.
Wonder if he retires or takes one more swing at it?
Wow. I really liked Bryant. Nothing wrong with getting younger though. I guess they feel Odrick can play a big number of snaps at 5 tech.
I did like Big Red and think him being here for the year will have helped a lot of the younger guys. As the season went on his ability to impact the game did seem to be getting worse which was is a shame for him.
I don't like the move. True leader/winner. Rather have seen Alualu not re-signed.

He's an ideal 5 tech, but can rush the passer as well. He's like a poor man's JJ Watt.
This saves 4.5 on the cap for 2015. And all the guarantees were on last year. So zero dead money.
Brilliant how they write these contracts.

I would have had all three, since Odrick's best position is actually 3T, which will allow him to rotate to keep Marks fresh given his health status. But given Red's age, and the money given to Jared...not surprising.

Very smart, indeed.

They have done a really good job of managing the cap and structuring deals.

I have to agree, but I loved his presence and leadership, but obviously the coaches know more than me.

They're amongst the best at doing this, rotoworld ran article last year highlighting this. All of the contracts are paid on a "pay as you go" basis, they front load the deals so they can get out of it at any time without and financial repercussions.

This organization as a whole, despite the faults of the previous GMs, has done a good job of this since Michael Huygue and TC's early forays into FA.

Yup. It's been the one area where they've exceeded expectations. Hopefully that fiscal management will pay off this year.

This team has young leaders now, guys like Telvin Smith and Aaron Colvin have the confidence and swagger to lead this young defense, not to mentioned new comers like Jared Ordrick.

And Chris Clemons and the experienced staff they brought in. I liked Red a lot.
