Very Good... I'm glad that he was resigned for a couple of years. He deserves to stay in Jaguar Teal and Black at this point. He's been durable and More than Serviceable to say the least. Congratulations Alualu...

NH3...
Quote:Looking at how the contract was structured, it appears there was mutual understanding standing in regards to the opt out.

Alualu knew he likely wasn't getting 4.25 mil guaranteed on the open market. He wouldn't have opted out unless he knew the jags were going to take care of him.

Hmm... So you're saying Caldwell told him to opt out saying he'd work it out.

This makes sense. I'm getting over the initial sticker shock.

Quote:Returning to JAX on a 2yr deal per @AdamSchefter, former #10 pick Tyson Alualu earned the best run D grade of his career in 2014.

Then again, how tough was this consider the leaky sieve that he was vs the run at DT in years past?

Good point though. At least I can start to understand the stats claim. That just didn't make any sense when I first read it.

How in the world are people upset that we resigned players on our team? I saw criticism of resigning Ryan Davis on the main page. You can't sign players from other teams until Tuesday, so ask those hopeful of a big splash should understand reuos one this have no bearing on true free agency.

And not for nothing, Caldwell built a front seven that produced 45 sacks primarily through fa without breaking the bank. He might have a plan.

Caldwell having a plan is a definite...

NH3...
It looks like we will have us some TA for at least 2 more seasons.

I'm really not upset about this...and I really don't get criticism of the Ryan Davis signing. Now THAT was a good move!

He's making less than Ziggy Hood and Red Bryant on a per year basis. I feel a little better. Still think re-signing the poster boy for under-achieving mediocrity with guaranteed money is not the way to improve the roster.

Anyone who hates this resigning is just dumb. Tyson knows the system and has steadily improved year after year primarily in the run game. Big Red isn't getting any younger and Tyson is quality rotational depth.

I know, it's not like the Jags overpaid him.

They could do worse, as we have seen in the past.

The ones that dislike this resigning simply have an distain for Alualu because of his draft status. They haven't taken into consideration that he played out of position for three years not to mention his injury from the Oklahoma drill. That took him two years to overcome but he never missed a game... NEVER...

NH3...
Well, this re-signing isn't going to make me lose sleep at night. Tyson represents depth; he isn't a star, but he can play DE or DT so his versatility kind of makes up for his ho-hum performance. As long as we're not paying too much for him, it's an 'ok' re-sign.

NFL.com had his run grades from 2011 to 2014 with last year being -2.9 and 2011 being -17.7, He's trending in the right direction and good teams have good depth. If he's above average for depth, and continues to improve then There's no reason not to keep him, especially on that salary number. Not like we just broke the bank or anything.

Dang I bet a ton of teams were shocked they could not sign him

Tyson Alualu returning to JAX. His Run D grade in recent years:

2011 -17.7

2012 -11.1

2013 -6.3

2014 -2.9

Either improvement or less playing time

Quote:This signing screams satisfaction with mediocrity.

Seriously though, as long as they don't intend for the man to actually start a game, I guess it's not so bad to have a $3 mil per year bench warmer.
He isn't a bench warmer Fred. He gets significant playing time every game. He doesn't start, but he doesn't warm the bench either.

As they say..... It is what it is.
Quote:It's a good signing, especially since Alualu can move over to DT if need be, since both our starting DTs are coming off of knee surgery.

Great point! Thumbs up here because both our DT are coming off an injury. He is a great insurance policy and the money is right. No risk involved.

WTG Dave!!
