Quote:Aluahu hate just completely blows my mind. Go see what other DT are getting at his position. Who would we get to fill his roster spot? A rookie or a 3rd string DL from some other team.

Get over it everyone. He is a backup.

GO JAGS!
I really don't hate Alualu. As you can imagine I'm quite vocal (and drunk)when I cheer at the games, and I have rooted for Alualu specifically quite a few times. I've cheered for him when they announce him on the video boards or after he had made a play. I don't hate anyone, much less a man who has done nothing to me.

I DO hate the amount of excuses people try to make up to say he is good. He's not. Someone in this thread literally went in depth over the term "benchwarmer" for him.

I'm sure he's a great guy, and he has had a mass amount of success in his life, but he isn't good in the NFL. Sorry I can be honest about it.

Change Alualu's name to Marcedes Lewis and this whole thread would flip script.
Why does it matter to you?  He's just a guy on a team filling a spot, nothing more nothing less.  Its not like HC Gus Bradley said he was going to start over Big Red Bryant, he's just ensuring he still has depth at DE.  It wasnt even a long contract, only 2 years... i mean if it was your money (like taxes, or if you owned the team in some way or fashion like stock) than I guess I could see why so many are upset about his pay... or even if it was a salary cap thing and the team now couldnt sign CB Revis or something like that... but the team has tons of space at the cap...

I really dont understand why so many are so upset about this deal... yeah Tyson Alualu isnt a great DT/ DE, but he's good at stopping the run.. and that is why they signed him to be a 5 tech DE on running situations.

He's not good at stopping the run. Having "the best run defense grade of your career" does not equal good.

I don't think you were speaking to me specifically, but I really don't mind Alualu having his contract, and I've been the most vocal about his play. It doesn't change any plans for the team.
Lol Jags signing Odrick

Alualu defenders after Odrick signs.

The team stated he was great against the run on their website, but I am not certain how he actually did against the run since moving to DE.

So -  if they do intend to use Odrick at 5 tech  -  is this simply an "addition by subtraction" move?  Add a player - decrease the snap counts.

I have a feeling they want to get him in on some three tech snaps -  at least early on while Sen is still getting back to full speed. Interesting situation. At any rate - we've seen the fresh legs/heavy rotation thing work well for other lines -  and to a lesser extent in Jacksonville already.

Hopefully Odrick helps in that manner.

I am glad we re-signed Alualu to his new contract. If we could re-sign Lewis to the same deal I would be thrilled. Alualu wasn't worth his original draft spot, but is worth the new deal. Lewis might not have been worth his original draft spot, but sure wasn't worth his second contract. Not sure how the script gets flipped.

Because Alualu is the only player your not allowed to call terrible on this board.
Since Odrick has agreed to terms with the jags 5 years 35 mill, will Red Bryant be released for the younger Odrick to play 5 tech DE and Alualu subbing in or will they keep him and start Odrick at 3 tech DT till Marks is ready and Bryant will play 5 tech DE?

Hey for all the flak he gets, that man knows how to stick around.

Quote:Well, I guess you just don't think that average players deserve to be kept with average contract extensions to back up the above-average player.

Honestly, I'd prefer seeing above-average players backing up Pro Bowl caliber players.
