I would be more jazzed about seeing JPP coming here... can you imagine
JPP with Chris Clemons coming in on certain packages or when JPP gets tired... having a healthy S' Marks & DT Leo Williams (draft) and then Big Red on the other side... that's one heck of a D-line!
Then having Telvin Smith, Poz, and it would be also awesome if Houston was signed off of FA on the other side...
now we have ourselves an exciting defense to watch... then sign FS from the Patriots... draft a good Offensive line man in the 2nd & 3rd round... hmmm.. interesting... sign another good CB... or draft....
Exciting season it would be...

I'm sure the Jags have a strong interest in a ton of FA's right now. It's the "hashing out a deal" is where the hang ups happen.

Hes still a big TE that can block and catch some
lol, I don't think any team would be that concerned.

Who should they sign them? Because if you sign anybody the first few days of free agency, you are going to "overpay" them.
Honestly, we can play this game with any free agent and find reasons not to sign them.

Exactly, such a dumb comment. People act like the guy is purely a product of Manning, if that's the case than why does that Bronco offense look completely different when Jacob Tamme is in the game? Thomas is a freak athlete with all kinds of straight line speed, the Jaguars have never had a talent like that at the TE position.
02-20-2015, 01:49 PM
I'm all for overpaying. Just get the best players you can get at this point. That's the luxury we have right now and suffered two seasons for. If Thomas is the best TE we can get, pay the man. I don't care who his quarterback was. If his play was a product of Manning, so what. He should have continued success as a product of Bortles. Otherwise, we have a quarterback problem. We didn't draft Bortles to be a product of other players.

If you want a freak athlete with great speed, sign a wide receiver. If you want a tight end, sign someone who can block. Thomas gets blown up by defenders so often, it's not even funny. I'm not saying that athleticism and hands aren't important when signing a tight end, but I am saying that spending $10M per year on a guy who couldn't keep his grandmother off the ball-carrier is idiotic. Sign Charles Clay and let some other team waste their money on a guy who's one knee injury away from useless.

This, the Jaguars have $60M+ in cap space and people are worried about overpaying, so lame. They expect David Caldwell to find cheap gems every year like he did with Sen'Derrick Marks.

The Jaguars will probably sign a receiver as well, the truth is this team needs a veteran presence at receiver and at TE; we're flushed with cap space, so overpaying is fine. I can see the Jaguars adding a top of the line TE, WR, and RT, and still would have plenty of cap space to address issues on the defensive side of the ball (DT, LEO, LB, FS), the beautiful thing about the Jaguars situation is there are no players on the current roster that warrants a contract extension anytime soon, this team has all kinds of flexibility because of it.

Clay is, imo, a safer prospect than Thomas, and one who's a better fit for most NFL offenses. I don't hate Julius Thomas, and you wouldn't see me inciting any riots if he were the pick, but I can tell you that up this way, lots of Bronco fans are of the opinion that Demaryius Thomas must be resigned at any cost, and Julius Thomas can easily be replaced if he leaves town.
02-20-2015, 02:08 PM
Forgive my cynicism about Thomas. I've seen to may Manning guys leave him and turn out to be average guys. I don't deny his athleticism and admit we need a threat at TE in the worst way. However, he is going to command big money and I don't think he is worth it. There are other options at TE that won't command the money but will still be highly productive.

If the Jaguars can get him, we finally will say goodbye to Marcedes Lewis. I am looking forward to it.

They prefer Demaryius because he's the better player, there's no doubt about that, but J. Thomas isn't that far behind. I like Charles Clay, but prefer Julius because of his size; he's a legit red zone threat at 6'5 and runs just as well (if not better than Clay). According to PFF, Clay is the better run blocker while Thomas pass protects better, so it's a wash there. At the end of the day I feel Julius is more dynamic, and offers more upside than Clay.

The TE I wish the Jaguars had is Travis Kelce, that guy is going to be a monster.

You and me both, he's one of the worst TE's in the league.

Or we do double TE formations more, like when the Patriots had Gronk and Hernandez.

:ermm: I don't know about on the worse, certainly an upgradable positions but he's not that bad.

Double formations with Lewis? Comparing it to Gronk and Hernandez? No way, the Jaguars are better off signing Thomas, cutting Lewis and drafting a guy like Jessie James in the 3rd-4th round, there's absolutely no reason to keep Marcedes on the roster, he doesn’t offer anything as a receiver and his blocking has fell off the face of planet earth over the last two seasons. I doubt he's on the roster next year, and yes he is one of the worst TE's in football.

Too bad he's stuck in that horrendous offense
