Marcedes Lewis was just on 930 Rich Eison's radio show a few minutes ago.  Anybody catch this?  I caught the latter half of it.  They asked him what the Jaguars needed in the draft, and he responded they need a right tackle and some playmakers on defense.  He praised Bortles for taking responsibility for his interceptions, and compared him to Garrard in that regard (almost like it was a shot at Gabbert).  Another interesting thing is he said he ran a 4.7 at the combine, which kind of surprises me.  He looks more like he plays at 7.4 speed these days.

Im still a bit worried about signing him but I do admit he is a beast, I think he has something other than Manning that makes him as good as he is.

Obviously, his production would go down going from Manning to Bortles. And I'm sure if we sign him people will say he is a bust because he isn't putting up the same numbers. The guy is a beast plain and simple, but it will be near impossible for him to impress anyone. He will be crucified around every corner, due to unfair and unrealistic expectations. True fans will understand the drop in production and know that he is still a great asset to Bortles and the team, should be come here.

Like most, I think I prefer Clay or Cameron as they should be cheaper and pretty much just as effective, but we appear set on Thomas based on all the rumors.

Can anyone name these guys who looked great with manning and not elsewhere?

I can only think of Dallas Clark who was getting old/injured and Eric Decker but he wasn't exactly their top receiver

I think Decker did pretty good with what he was delt. 900+ yards, 5 TD's and Geno throwing to him. He made lemonade..

Jaguar fans need to stop worrying about the Manning effect and focus on the player, Thomas is a 6'5 freakish athlete with great hands, straight line speed, and impressive route running ability, he's a matchup nightmare. Would he have the same production here as in Denver? Of course not, but he's certainly a weapon Blake can use, especially in the red zone. I find this "product of Manning" argument silly, was Marvin Harrison a "product of Manning" as well? Great players benefit from other great players, you can make the argument that Julius Thomas made Manning better, and vice versa. That offense certainly looked different when Thomas was sidelined and they were forced to insert Jacob Tamme into the starting lineup, Julius Thomas is a legit talent and the Jaguars would be foolish not to offer him a lot of money, especially given our situation.

While I fully agree with and support your comment, their have been many people that have posed this question not just Jaguar fans. I do agree though that we should target him with little hesitation.

and a rather large pay cut.

Everyone is going to pose the question because it's the same old question that's been asked fo years when it comes Manning's receivers and TE's, so I get it. I just choose to focus on the player, Dallas Clark would've been productive with any competent QB because he was a matchup nightmare due to his speed and agility, the same goes for Marvin Harrsion, Reggie Wayne, Demaryius Thomas etc..
After 10/12, he only had 23 catches 265 yards 3 TD's in eight games.

Almost half his yards and over half his TD's came in three games (IND, NYJ, ARZ).

He was hurt and missed multiple games, it's clear you haven't watched him play much as you're cherry picking stats. Btw, their are other mouths to feed in Denver.

The latter two teams had very stout defenses.
Quote:I'll take Julius Thomas and Jesse James.
I approve this message

This just came out from his agent:

According to the player rep for free agent Julius Thomas, Thomas' late-season ankle injury was later diagnosed as torn ligaments.

It wasn't just a high ankle sprain that cost Thomas time and robbed him of his late-season explosion. When Julius' father felt his son's toughness was being questioned, Greg Thomas allegedly used Twitter to lash out at the Broncos, Peyton Manning, GM John Elway, and the team's contract proposals. Per the Denver Post, the sides "seem to be headed their separate ways."

Good.  This is a guy who would actually be a good fit for the Jags, and if he's playing with a little chip on his shoulder, all the better.

Long strides
For the record I'd be thrilled with just about anyone at TE, we desperately need to upgrade the position. I just don't think Lewis is AS bad as some around here claim him to be. Certainly not the worse TE in the NFL, but definitely a position we can upgrade with this free agency/draft.

I just went back and looked at Lewis stats for this year, 18/31 206 yards 2 TD's :woot: He was WAY worse then I remember last year!

I take it back jagforlife85 I just failed to realize how bad he was last year during our season of suck, honestly I didn't remember him being that ineffective, holy crap how did it get this bad?

In reality, the Jags don't have to move on from Lewis. I think they probably will if they find an upgrade opportunity, but it's not a given by any means.  I agree he's not the worst TE in the league, but some of those drops last year were pretty painful to watch.  For a guy who came into the league as a pass catching TE, he developed Kyle Brady hands pretty quickly.
