No thanks at 12 million per year.  I'm not giving him 20% more than the biggest TE contract in NFL history given to Graham last summer.

Actually, you personally, wouldn't be giving him anything. If the Jags brass says to sign him, suck it up buttercup.

Well, I feel better now that I know it's not actually me that's paying him 12 million dollars per year.  I was worried for a little bit.

Cool. Glad I could help.
Quote:If it wasn't for those he would be getting the franchise tag as we speak.

But he has them. Sooo...
Where's the 12 million number coming from I'm out of the loop?

Supposedly, someone saw this number prediction on spotrac, stating that Thomas has already turned down a 9 million per year deal and is seeking much more. I originally brought light to it on the forums.

Jaguars need to look the other way on Thomas. Manning has made him a superstar in his mind. These contracts are getting out of hand. Get Clay and then draft Oleary in the mid-rounds. We would be set for years.
If what the article says is true, there are some red flags to be considered before deciding on signing him to a big deal.

I'm honestly not even in favor of going after these big name guys.

Get 3-4 players like Hood, Bryant, Clemons that can upgrade our Team for 2 years or so.... We are still building through the draft.
This team needs difference making playmakers. Julius Thomas is a TD scoring machine. Hopefully Blake's red zone security blanket.

Yes he does, and Julius Thomas has significant injury concerns too. So the question is, are Cameron's concussion issues so much more worrisome than the leg issues of Julius that you would rather pay a lot more to get what can be argued (and I would) is the inferior player in Thomas?

I personally don't think we can guarantee that the concussions are much more worrisome so I want the better and cheaper player.

Are three concussions in two seasons more worrisome than an ankle injury? Uh....yes.

So if they do that and win 5-6 games you won't complain?
So according to this article,

Falcons or JagsJulius Thomas is going to go to the Jaguars or Falcons.

Jaguars will be aggressive pursuers.  Some "anonymous" source at the bottom of this article is quoted saying, "Probably gone [Julius Thomas]. Jacksonville will be among the most aggressive pursuers."  How very sneaky of NFL.com to quote link that quote to the writer of that article, Mike Klis.

How are you guys feeling about this? Personally, I don't like it at all. I've read Thomas is looking for his big payday and not dedicated to the game. I don't care if it's true or not, its not good to have that kind of talk surrounding you. I don't like the idea of breaking the bank on another TE that just had a "big" contract year, especially under Peyton Manning.

I didn't see anyone talking about this and I got tired of waiting.

AN ankle injury??? Julius hurt his ankle on his very first reception in 2011 and missed most of the year, then finally had surgery on the ankle for torn ligaments in 2012 and missed all but 16 snaps of that season too, and has now also missed 5 more games the last two season with more ankle injuries. Are 3 concussions in two seasons more worrisome than like 30 missed games in Julius' 4 seasons...all due to ankle injuries?

Yes, maybe compared straight up. I will ask again though, since we demonstrated that it is not just AN ankle injury but 4 years of chronic ankle injuries including surgery for torn ankle ligaments. Is it more worrisome also factoring in that Cameron should be much cheaper and can be argued to be the better player straight up? That I would not say yes to so bluntly as you did.

Really?

So if it isn't true, Thomas is not money motivated and truly loves football, you still don't think he would help the team and would not want him under any circumstances?
You will find a long and healthy discussion of Julius Thomas in the NFL At Large section/board.

I don't think you'll find one poster, coach, or GM who thinks reoccurring concussions are less important than reoccurring ankle injuries. Especially with the emphasis the league has placed on concussions in general, the next one might force him into retirement or worst case possibly brain damage or death.

The studies out now are saying that players who suffer 3 or more concussions are 5 times more likely to suffer another vs a player who hasn't had a concussion before and after the 3rd concussion the risk of brain damage jumps significantly. That's scary dude.
