That's really an impressive vision for the shipyard area. I can certainly see the economic impact such development would have in the downtown area. A three tiered practice field... that's so 'over the top' that it's hard to imagine such a thing in Jacksonville.
I have a question though; will it help our team get better and win more football games, or, will it just be another example of putting the proverbial 'cart before the horse' and fuel further ridicule about the Jaguars franchise? 'We're the team with everything... swimming pools, movie stars... everything, except a winning football team! Now maybe I'm just too 'old school' to get this, but I thought the whole point of having an NFL football team here was about the football, not all this other 'stuff'.
I do know that Khan has been quoted as saying three double digit losing seasons in a row is unacceptable. Does this mean that Khans 'bottom line' for next season is at least 7-9 or it's hit the road time for Gus? Or is this just Khan saying what he thinks the fans want to hear with no intention of actually acting on it? If Khan's bottom line really is 7-9, then maybe bringing Marrone here really was a 'proactive' move.
The footbal people handle the football part... The business people handle the business part.

Fun fact. You are allowed to do two things at once. This post screams of the people that say "why doesnt Kahn use all dat money and buys him some real players?!11"
I just.....I don't know what to say.
Maybe we should use Jacksonville's entire budget to purchase a winning football team.
Can I ask a more relevant question? I mean this with all honesty and accept my incompetence on the matter.
But what the hell do we need 3 practice fields for? And wouldn't it make sense for them to build an indoor field since we always have problems practicing in August?
Also the design is a little odd, they just stacked a field on top of a field with no boundaries. With the current design someone could fall off and die HahahahahHa.......

The top was never meant to be a practice field for the Jags. Also they aren't going to put all the safety features on the drawings... It wouldn't look very appeasing to have guardrails all over. It's the same reason why the St Johns is blue instead of brown.
It's not a cart and horse dynamic.
It's a "do whatever it takes to keep the franchise in an amazing place that the owner believes has really unbelievable potential" dynamic.
I think he's right to believe it - and to act upon it.
Downtown Jax is the ultimate underachiever. This might just be the thing to finally revitalize it properly.
The Jags can only benefit - as would the city of Jacksonville. Trying to find a negative here seems idiotic to me.
Nice bubble gum. Can you walk and chew it at the same time?

Aren't you the same guy that was complaining before the announcement?
We get it. You only care about football.

They currently have three practice fields. So would, not really be a change if they planned on using the top field. The one field is protected from the elements, thus serves the purpose of being able to practice out of the elements.

The problem with this sentiment is whether people want to believe it or not, and owner is involved in the football part. He ultimately signs off on who picks the players, and who coaches the team.

Yes. People don't want to believe that the owner hired the GM. What the hell are you talking about?

What did this comment even mean?? Premise being football side deals with the Jaguars and business side would be dealing with Shipyards development.

I disagree. If Khan stepped over Caldwell's head, then Tebow would've been on the team at some point.
Khan is a businessman. He is doing this for the ROI. He just so happens to love football so he's getting a benefit of being close to the action and reaping a massive profit.

Khan has stated that if he owned the team back in 2010, he "absolutely" would have drafted Tebow. Trade down or not; Tim Tebow absolutely should never have been considered as a viable draft pick.

You're not old school. The elephant in the room is that we have a football team that has a crappy record. But one of the above posters is right about interpreting what you hear from the football people and the business people.
We have a situation where we have an owner who is heavily involved in the marketing and social aspect of the franchise and the city. We will end up hearing in tje news about "Jaguars Owner doing _________" even if its not football related like One Spark, Shipyards, etc..
You cant buy a winning team in football, you have to hope you hired the right people to draft well and scheme fit. but what he can do is use his business expertise to improve the business side of the team. I can understand people wanting him to fire a gm or coach for different reasons, even if I don't agree with it. but that is essentially all that khan can personally do on the football side. unless he goes all jerry jones which is very rarely beneficial to the product on the field.
