Hopefully, he'll have Blake throw to Marcedes. TEs usually have good numbers in his offense...

We need more TE production for sure.  But I wouldn't rely on it coming from a TE who has been a receiving threat one time in an 8 year career.
I agree with the premise that the right PERSONALITIES and PHILOSOPHIES may be as important as the actual X's and O's aspect of the hires.  If they have an offensive staff now that is firm and united in what they'd like to do, and if everybody gets along as far as personalities not clashing, then the offense can take a significant step forward with the potential for much more.  Apparently, Gus also talked to key players about what they were looking for, so we should see an even more stress-free environment where the young players can thrive.

I also like the way Gus went about this.  Gus continues to show outstanding leadership qualities.  The coaching staff got a lot stronger this week, and Gus recognized the need to improve the OL coaching in a big way  Maybe they couldn't count on George Yarno for 2015 due to health or other reasons.  I certainly wouldn't blame Yarno if his perspectives have changed following cancer treatment.

Anyway, I'm very happy with these hires today and we'll see how it plays out.  I think with another infusion of player talent at the right spots, the Jags could soon be a very good team.  I think the schedule isn't that scary for 2015 and I'd love to see the Jags pile up some wins early in the season.  This 0-10 business cannot continue.  Season over in October is no way to reward the loyalty of the fans.

Ugh,  can someone start a gif thread?

Quote:The general consensus of this board in a week will be that this was a coup.  The Jaguars outsmarted everyone in the NFL again.

There's nothing we can do about it.  Why not be happy?

It's just as likely Marcedes won't be on the receiving end of any passes as a Jaguar this coming season.
I'm all for giving him a chance to prove himself. If he fails, we'll have to start over. Maybe he wants to make up for the mess that was left from Blaine...

The only one who can make up for that mess is Gabbert himself, and I think we'll just leave that one alone.  He just wasn't suited to be an NFL QB.  Can't coach up what isn't there.
I called it when we interviewed him, its an ok hire, its gonna be up to the players anyways

Doesn't really matter to me who we hired as a coach what we do to improve the roster will be the real story
The more I think about it, it makes some sense. First, it wasn't like Gus and company didn't do their due diligence interviewing a number of folks. From my perspective the main candidates were Gase, Trestman, and Olson. Trestman I would have been OK with, but he went with the Ravens. Gase I was a lot less certain about. First, there was the whole 49ers interview thing. Second, Fox has been in Chicago and has already hired his DC, but is interviewing multiple candidates for OC? Maybe he is checking things out, but that also raises a few concerns. Finally, Olson has been OC for a number of teams, with some good results in St. Louis and Tampa. His time here he had Gabbert (enough said) and in Oakland he had Pryor as QB in 2013 and Carr in 2014. Carr looks good, but rookies can take time. Also, from what i have read, their offensive line has been really bad. Sound familiar? I think A lot of the team's success will depend on how our offensive line develops. If we can get the line straightened out, Olson will dohis part and we will be competitive. At the end of the day, while I think Fisch might still be a decent coordinator in the right circumstances and am not going to pillory him for his efforts here, I think Olson is better. The Jaguars are better now than they were in December. I think they are better than they would have been with Gase. Solid hire if not a thrilling one.

This is what mediocracy looks like

great post man. Love your insight.

Fact is there's no one we could have hired who would guarantee wins next year.

God wasn't looking for work.

Fixed it for ya!
meh, don't really care.  All I remember from him is that they wanted to keep him on when Mularkey was fired but didn't block him from interviewing for other jobs.  Then he took the job in Oakland.

I hope with Greg and Doug is that they find a way to run the ball efficiently. Hopefully Doug can have the OL fixed by opening holes for the RB and blocking better for the QB. If we can get 5 yards a carry running the ball I think we will be in good shape. IF not we are in it for the long run.

It's a good hire if you want Gus gone.  I hope we don't see Bortles becoming a dink and dunk guy.

Terrible hire I like it.

I am plenty happy. I have a wonderful life.

I don't Like the hire.

What is up with obsession about dink and dunk? You realize some of the very best QBs dink and dunk? It is all about getting it to the right guy. Sometimes he is open deep, sometimes it is your check down guy.
