I think it all depends on the OC situation and whether anyone is available that knows the new system. If I were Morris, I'd be concerned right now. Henne may stick around for a while, but I could see him being cut in camp. We'll see, but I think he stays around for a while.
We need a back up who can move the ball. Henne cannot do that.
I'd like to bring in a few guys to compete with and hopefully beat out Henne for the role. His release would save $3.5 mil, and it shouldn't be that hard to find someone who can straight up beat him out. We might even consider drafting the backup qb in the late rounds.
Quote:He needs to go, Mark Sanchez could be a could back up IMO. Brian Hoyer or even Colt McCoy. They would all be upgrades over Henne
Colt McCoy? Really? Do ya watch football?
Quote:I truly believe that some people on this message board would pitch in a portion of their annual salary to keep Henne on the team. This is how much they love him.
Those were the "In Gene we trust" people. The love for mediocrity is horrific.
Quote:I dont see the point in keeping him. He is a backup that is going to make three mill this next season. He isn't good and is absolutely nothing special as a player.
Why pay a backup that cant back up>? How much is he making again? Why not leage vet minimum?
Given that Henne is already paid for, at this point there is no urgent need to go out and replace him. Since Fisch is gone, I would have to say that one of, perhaps the only, substantial reason for keeping Henne also departed. I don't know how much help Henne actually was with bringing BB2 along as a starting quarterback, so it's hard to say how much value Chad has from that angle.
The only thing that can be said about Chad is that with Fisch gone, his value as a quarterback here is diminished. Still, the man is paid for, so from a practical point of view there is no urgent need to replace him this season.
We took forever to dump McClown, have taken way to long to dump Henne...I honestly would rather have Mark Sanchez (*barfs*) lol or bring Leftwich in.
Hell no.

i wouldn't mind him being the backup. we could use a backup with experience.

The idea that you need to spend 3.5 million on a guy that won't win games is ridiculous.
If Henne is in the game the Jaguars are in trouble, they'd be better off trying to develop young lions than paying prior failures as if they got some kind of extra benefit from having someone on the roster that already proved they're not good enough.
Most teams in the league would be dead in the water if they had to play their backup QB

Thats what you think.

you'll think so?
come on man, just look at the playoffs and look at the caliber of QB in them.
if a starter goes down then the season is pretty much done for that team.
look at Arizona, does anyone think the Cardinals are going to win this weekend with that QB?
Quote:Most teams in the league would be dead in the water if they had to play their backup QB
Correct.
Before you even start worrying about who your backup is you need to have an NFL playoff caliber roster.
I'm more concerned with paying guys to keep Bortles from being injured than I am with paying guys to hold a clipboard and utterly fail to perform if called upon.
Keep him till we have another Rodgers as backup. 2 cents worth. :woot:

Don't blame you there Zoe. He's the best they can get at backup.

He will be third string once we draft another QB
Henne showed this year that he has nothing left to offer. I'm convinced that those who want to keep him don't really watch football.

let me ask you this, did you like Jedd Fisch?

No need to deflect Henne's failure onto others.
Fisch was bad, and so is Henne. There's plenty of failure to go around.
