Quote:Outside of Alex Mack who was available as a Free Agent upgrade? Good Olineman don't usually come available on the market, you have to draft them. The Cowboys have what 4 1st rounders on their line? We'd be crazy to try and not draft someone to upgrade or push Joeckel, Beadles, and Pasturz.

But that's not my point, it's on David this year to assemble the best possible 5 starting offensive linemen come week 1.

It was actually a pretty decent tackle crop last year. Albert, Monroe, Veldheer, Penn, Collins, Saffold, Oher, were all available.
Quote:Year 3, it's on the General Manager to give us a competitive roster this year. I'm not expecting an all pro-roster and even getting into the playoffs but I expect a roster that should be able to at least sniff .500

The youth excuse is now out the window

The rebuilding excuse is now out the window

This is the year David's plan needs to come into focus or it's time to make changes. That means if we really go into next season with the same group of linemen and they don't develop it's on David as much as Gus. If we still don't get the production needed out of the offense that's on David as much as Gus.

Honestly we need to draft heavy in the Offensive line and Secondary but that's just my opinion. Whatever David does is fine but I think most of us can fairly say in year 3 we've been patient and if it's still a 5-6 win team we should change leadership.

I've got no desire to watch this team struggle for 5 wins next year on the promise year 4 is the year. That screams Gene Smith all over again, fool me once.........

I'm hopeful but not optimistic, we're pretty much betting on the perfect off season to field a competitive team.

I agree.  He has to draft really well and bring in the right Free Agents.  If he has the talent there and the coaches fail.  I think he gets another year to pick a new HC, otherwise him and Gus will be fired at the end of 2015 if another 4 win season occurs.

Oher is awful.

I don't see the quality in that group, a few lateral moves but nothing screams improvement in that group. I'd argue a couple of them would be a step backwards.

Veldheer would have been an upgrade. Monroe IMO an upgrade over Luke but we obviously weren't going to go back there. I would have taken Albert for our RT
Quote:No but dont pretend that we didnt all expect at least one more win than last year.
Obviously I'm struggling to respond to that post using my mobile phone. But that's our expectations every year lol.
We all agree that our team started with nothing beginning the 2013 off season, right? No GM is going to be perfect. We do need a better staff for the offense but WE GOT SOME YOUNG TALENT! Better days are near, friends!

You are correct sir. But I have waaayyyy more faith in Caldwell than Gene Smith.
I don't know man, it seems like barring another catastrophic year, both the GM and HC will be safe.  I didn't get the vibe from the pressers that they were in "playoff or else" mode.  6 wins probably does it.

They arent in win or go home mode. As I've been telling people, you dont understand how far GS set this franchise back. So many rookies have to play and start and so many picks and cap has been wasted. I am actually relieved at the moves that have taken place. This year we will see how thorough Caldwell's scouting is and how well Bradley can coach. Im really optimistic about the next 2 years.

Oh, same here.  I dont think we really know from a personnel scouts view point of how bad they were at the end of 2012.

As do I, I was hopeful Gene would pull it all together but in the end I consider it a lesson learned. By year 3 it painfully obvious his plan was flawed and not working, so this year it'll be obvious one way or another if this rebuild is working.

No way, 6 wins against a bottom end schedule, we should at least hit .500
I dont think it is a make or break year for either Dave or Gus, i do think we need to see some more success though. The record would say we took a step back this season, however i thought we took a step ahead. There were quite a few games that we were in till the last mins vs playoff teams, considering we had the youngest roster and a lot of rookies playing and starting i think that is a  positive. I think this team is not far at all from being able to make a run, there is talent and  imo we have a great combo in Dave and Gus.
