Chad Pennington had a lot of success in spite of his shortcomings, but he certainly wasn't elite.

 

Teddy at least has the benefit of a first class coordinator, it'll be interesting to see how far he can go.

 

Pennington was a very very successful QB in the NFL until multiple injuries to his throwing arm/shoulder further weakened what was already an average arm. I think Teddy has a stronger arm than Chad anyway (even before the injuries)

Ya, don't get the Pennington deal with posters. He was a very good QB to do what he did with that arm, very under rated.

i think its because most remember him from his later years in NY and definitely with the Dolphins, when he was the poster child for "noodle " arm" QBs

I can't speak for anyone else, but I mention him because he's a classic example of the high floor low ceiling kind of player that might be tempting to teams but who ultimately wouldn't get their team over the hump.

 

He's an ideal kind of backup because he had the mind for it, just not the physical prowess.

 

Maybe Bridgewater does better than I think he will, but I've always thought of him as an Andy Dalton type. You bring him in because he's "pro ready" and you spend years confused as to whether he can get you over the hump because he's having some level of success. It's likely that he never will.

Pennington was starter material 100%.

So there's room for improvement.

 

I had to laugh at what they listed for the tacks QB, I guess they have no starting QB.

At least the Jags aren't last. I remember the year with Gabbert and Henne, the jags weren't even in the list of 32.

Except Teddy is a rookie and i challenge someone to say Teddy is in anywhere near as good a situation as Dalton.


Jeremy Hill and AJ Green break that alone. Then add in a good bengals defense, Gresham,Sanu and Hawkins when healthy and its a plus for Bridgewater that he is considered in that tier already.

Dalton is the same qb he was as a rookie, which you will probably be able to say the same in a few years about Teddy. Plus Min. D is probably better Cin. Not to mention Teddy gets to work with Nov Turner. So yeah, I would say Teddy situation is just as good or better than Dalton

Contrary to what you think, Teddy is far from a finished product. He'll get stronger in the NFL's strength program. He's got some mechanical issues (especially with the deep ball) that he needs to fix. Just because he was more ready to step and play right away doesn't mean this is as good as he's going to get. He's just a few months younger than Bortles.

 

On paper, I think most would say Dalton was in a good situation. But this year has been tougher for him, with the injuries to Green/Jones. Their defense isn't as stout as in years past either. But even with that, I'd give the edge to Dalton with Sanu, Bernard and Hill and an overall better OL than what Bridgewater had. I laugh when I see people message Ozone and talk about Greg Jennings. LoL...Greg Jennings hasn't been relevant in at least two years. At least.

 

But mostly, Dalton is a 4 year pro whereas TB is a rookie.

 

Of the rookies, I'd say Blake dealt with the most difficult situation (too much youth around him, questionable OC), followed by Carr, then Bridgewater. All three however, had less than ideal situations for which they were asked to step into.
