Quote:We've picked in the top ten for nearly a decade straight. Top 5 three years in a row.

It doesn't matter what pick we have in the draft. I don't know how to make you people learn that there are no sure things in e NFL, and especially not in the NFL draft. Give the team a chance.
Way to destroy the optimism I had for the offseason - the draft is the one thing that fans of teams with losing records have to look forward to during the dead time...

You can always have hope that the Jags will draft that difference-maker, the one that will change our fortunes, but then you bring reality into play and make us remember that we have failed time and time again at the top of the draft.
Quote:I understand the team plays to win. From a franchise perspective I'll take the 2-14 season and the #1 pick so I can exchange it for 3 top 2 round picks or draft whoever I want. I'll take the #1 & 33 pick all day to rebuild a franchise instead of the 5 & 37.

So where is the line of when you should start playing/ stop playing to win?

We are 7-7 and unlikely to make the playoffs but the tacks are 2-10 fighting for the number one pick

Should we loose the game to ensure Tennessee get a poor draft position?

I know it seems simple when your having a bad season like 2-12 but ultimately all they should care about is how this team played and we played ok

Bortles took care of the ball the defense par one poor opening driver bent but didn't break
Draft position doesn't really matter, if you have a good FO you'll find a way to get the right guys.

Look at 2011

JJ Watt Rd. 1 Pick 11

Robert Quinn Rd 1 Pick 14

Ryan Kerrigan Rd 1 Pick 16

---

Jake Locker Rd 1 Pick 8

Blaine Gabbert Rd1. Pick 10

Christisan Ponder Rd1 Pick 12

3 top level defensive players, 3 backup QBs.

If we had of had no positive in that game and we luckily won I would somewhat agree, however what I believe I saw from the team and especially the young players progressing far outweighs picking a spot or 2 higher, in terms of us not being able to trade due to not owning the top 2 where the QB's will likely go, over the last 5 years statistically speaking teams have traded up mostly for Wide Receiver's.

And us say sitting potentially at 4/5 would be ideally as it's unlikely Cooper will go before but it is quite likely he will go a couple of picks after so we would be ideal trading partners. Teams like the Panthers, Saints, Browns could make us a strong offer.
Quote:Hmmm, yes - we did. You sir, are wrong.
So we were directly responsible for every other game the Colts lost that year? Or the fact that Manning got injured? Or the fact that no other team had a worse record? These were all things within the Jaguars control?

Colts tanked.  Once they started off as bad as they did, they tanked.  We played them while they were in tank mode.  Even if we tried to lose those games, the Colts were better at tanking so we still would have won.

Professional football players don't tank.

If ever there was a team that tanked, it was the clots.  And I don't blame them for a second.  If we had the chance to tank to get Andrew freaking Luck, you'd better believe I'd want that.  Only problem with tanking these last 2 years is that there's no clear-cut once in a generation player at the top of the draft.

People actually believe this?? Hahaha

Wow are you serious dude, what are you 12?  If that's offensive to you, you really need to go somewhere else.  This is an NFL board, not church for the latter day saints.  Get outta here with that crap.

Exactly!  2014 is too early to tell, but go look at every other draft over the past 10 years and we've left a better player on the board.  Just win with who we have.  Why root against 53 already in place so you can move up a spot or two to draft a guy who may or may not pan out?  Go Jags, crush the Texans!
Quote:Even though it's nice to win - it's way too late in the season to matter.

I hope we didn't just give the Titans the chance to draft some stud or trade back and accumulate tons of picks.

Oh NOOOOooooooooooooooo! Not the Titans! News flash morons, they were gonna have a pick too.
Quote:Dude, people have been suggesting it, but I just realized...you really are TMD jr.

We won? Arghpitchforks! We lost? Fire everyoneargh!

Get outta here with this crap salad.
No kidding! It's ridiculous.

He and "P Haze" are the two most obvious trolls on here.
NFL headline today: Jaguars edge Titans to lose ground in draft positioning

Of course :teehee:

Pretty sure the title above ^ was more so a knock on the tacks. Anyone who thinks that any professional sports team deliberately tanks has never been beyond a game of chess in moms basement!!

*Hmm, headline I read says, Bortles has "it" factor!

I hope the tacks draft their Blaine Gabbert.

I saw this headline:

Blake Bortles' gritty showing proves 'it' factor to team

"Bortles has gone through tough stretches that often displayed why the Jags' brass originally wanted to keep him out this year. However, in his moments of brilliance he's displayed a higher ceiling than any other rookie signal-caller in 2014. A gritty performance like Thursday's will only ingratiate Bortles toward teammates as he attempts to lead Jacksonville out of the NFL cellar."

I did not see this headline. This headline is a thousand times more positive and much more appropriate.

Fix the offensive line.  Find a quality free safety and another linebacker.  I wish we could find someone on offense who, at any moment, could break the game wide open.  I'm talking about guys like Fred Taylor or MJD or Jimmy Smith.
