I want to like Cyp, I really do. He is just too weak of a tackler. He slides off just about everybody. He doesn't bring any fear to our secondary. It just seems like he never gets a clean hit. Of course, the same can be said for just about everyone behind the front four.
I won't deny his effort though.. he's always nearby. I just hope he keeps improving.

I honestly feel it is just due to he's alignment. He can't just focus on patrolling the sticks like he should. He's having to 25 yards away from the LOS as well. That just is to much for his position to do.

He had 1 missed tackle against the Ravens. Played really well otherwise.
Quote:The "realist" will label this as an anomaly.
Maybe he read the board and is starting to get his [BLEEP] together.

Maybe because it is champ. Two years deep in your career on game 14 you decide to have your best fundamental game. I say fundamental because he still isn't making any game changing turnover plays, he just didn't burn us out there. So air quote realist all you want to while continuing to be "delusional" about this team.
I'm not ready to give up on him, but guys, this is one game. I'd put a little bit of credence behind it if he finishes out the season this way. Until then, he's been a bit of a disappointment, and this isn't enough to assume he'll continue to perform this way. Maybe some help from the FS position will help.

Man. You're allowed your opinion, but you don't have to be a b-hole about it.
Quote:The dude is good. Part of the reason he takes bad angles is because he has to play somewhat out of alignment to help assist in coverage. He isn't truly lined up where he should be in this defense of him to really excel. Most teams see that on film and design plays to get him one on one a lot. With him slightly out of position he puts him at a disadvantage most of the time.
You don't know that. You're literally making things up.

Like most other people have said, a better free safety back their will help him out tremendously.
This is another laughable logic people have. "He's good but he sucks because he has to make up for other positions" Give me a break. The coaches and the playoffs stressed "doing your job" earlier in the season. The truth is he sucks. He is a good tackler once he gets his hands on a player but he misses too much. He picks the worst possible angle way too often. The guys is not smart on the football field.
Last year it was "one we get a good pass rush our secondary will improve." Now it's "We need a good FS" Ugh.
I still want him to flash with some "WOW" plays - like an interception here or there, or causing fumbles by thumping opposing ball-carriers more often.
Especially as a high second round draft pick.

He tries to do that but often ends up diving at air. I would be ok with just solid play. He is liability in the run and passing game.

I would hope that a young player's best fundamental game would be the last one played. Odds are he will have more "best fundamental" games as his career continues to progress.
A. It's good that Cyp had his best game. I'm hoping this becomes the trend. It's been the trend for him to be getting burned.
...which leads to...
B. It's been hypothesized that Cyp has had to "mis-align" himself because of poor FS play... Is this something that Bradley or Babich have discussed on the record? Is there an all-22 or other proof of this?
I would love to believe that the reason Cyp blows tackles is because his poor angles are a result of him playing slightly out of position. I'm just not sure there's any real proof of that. If there is, I'd love to see it. I'd even take a written example of when you saw this on a particular play in a particular game.
The other concern regarding this hypothesis is that if he starts at a bad angle pre-snap, after the snap, shouldn't he have already adjusted as he is approaching the ball carrier once he's recognized who's got the ball and where the play his headed?

It's people talking out of their [BLEEP]

You need to have some kids. I see you're itching to discipline someone.

This. You got a couple of people, MVP and Haze that are convinced he takes poor angles and cant tackle. Yet he tackles more than our middle linebacker. Or any of our linebackers. He tackles more than 87% of the Strong safeties in the league. His job is run support and he is doing it,and lets face facts the D line gets stood up or gets penetration, the linebackers get shoved to the ground and after 7 yards and a full head of steam Mr.Cyprien meets Mr.Runner breaking out of a pile of bodies. Anybody would miss a few. That's all your average bonehead fan sees, a miss in space. Not the other 8 tackles in open space. Not the other 6 passes he doubled on and helped evans or mccray out. When our Linebackers can tackle more and not get shoved around like 200 lb toothpicks then Cyprien won't take these mythical bad angles. The really bizarre part is he has had a very good 2nd year with a very average to poor secondary. The D line has been very good. The backfield - Evans, Mccray, Gratz have been decent, but Cyprien has been far better.
Between Cyp and the D line those guys have kept us in games, period. Especially since Poz went out. Because he is not causing fumbles or making interceptions he is not performing at a high level? It's Crap.

Yeah one can only hope but I figure he'll go back to his regular.

Quick, someone rush me to the burn clinic.

Are you even watching the same games sober? It's not worth arguing with you because you literally are making things up. The guy has played awful most of the year. It's not even debate. Sure he makes tackles but he also misses plenty. Your a blind homer. It's ok.
