Quote:Some of you guys would be complaining if we won 5 or 6 games because that would but us out of range for a blue chip player.  Khan isn't ripping this whole team apart after just ripping it apart two years ago.  Enjoy the fact that we have an opportunity to get a good player, and we aren't stuck in no mans land in the draft.
Draft position is not a reason to lose games.  If your good enough, one rookie in the first round isn't going to make you that much better.  How many good players come in the later rounds?  How many first rounders bust?  You just can't bank on draft picks, IMO.

I feel that if we aren't going to the playoffs, win/loss records are pretty much irrelevant. For those who either define improvement solely in terms of win/loss record or otherwise do not see that the team is in better shape than it was last year, I hope you feel better. I think our roster is in better shape, and we are closer to having relevant games in December. For that reason, I think any talk of firing Caldwell/Bradley is pretty silly. If you really do think the roster is worse, I guess I can see your angst..

Quote:I can't believe any Jag fan thought that.

I sure didn't.

Any given Sunday applies to all NFL teams except the Jags.

The way our D is playing, we've been in almost every game this season...

I wasn't worried that we'd be in this game untill around the 3rd Quarter.  Which is exactly what happened.  But once they pulled ahead of us by more than a field goal, thier lead was insurmountable and the game was over by the late 3rd quarter.

That's been how most of our games have gone this year.

I don't think our D (and Bradley) get enough credit for really becoming a pretty good unit.  Yes, they do some things that drive you batty, but they keep us in every game, even with an offense that can't muster more than 17 points in practically every game.
You are what your record says you are!

No where did I say that draft position is a reason to lose games.

I disagree. If you're a fan who doesn't attend games then W/L record doesn't mean anything without playoff games. But for those who spend a ton of money going to the games, 8 hours of Sunday, and numerous minutes preparing tailgate food, then winning on Sunday is important to us. It just feels good to not be the laughing stock of the league.

This is a darn good point and probably the only real answer to the question, "give me a reason why winning Thursday would be better than losing"

Let's face it, this season is lost.  And as we have seen from last year, with this coaching staff, winning at the end of the year means nothing in terms of "momentum" into next year.

So the only real reason to root for a win is if you are one of the fans that are actually having to sit through the game at the stadium.

Sorry, I was speaking in general terms because I read so many posts where people want us to have that #1 pick and think we should tank.  My point, and again not directed to you, was that we should play to win and that will give us the best indication of where we are in this rebuild.  If we get the #1, then fine, but if we wind up with pick 6 or 7, pick the best guy and move on. I think we all want the team to get better and feel good about how things are going.

I agree with you.

I have three tickets, obviously I would be happier if we were winning games.  I hate having to drive from Gainesville to Jacksonville and back to Gainesville being disappointed with the result.  But we are where we are in terms of our rebuild.  In honesty, the regular season is really our offseason because the only thing we are gaining is experience.  As a team, they will improve from free agency and the draft.  Provided that they add all the proper pieces.
We will improve from free agency and the draft. Yep, that's the way it's suppose to work but it's not what has happened. Believe it or not, we can get worse from free agency and the draft.

Thanks for the rosy outlook...

That's why I hope there's a way we can trade back and get a few extra picks.  The more options we have the better our odds, that's all we can hope for:  Increasing our odds...

Saw a tweet from one of the Jags writers, I think either Ryan or Hays, that said something like "don't forget, the Jags have another 7 picks next year to improve". As if you can't say that about almost every other NFL team.

And this is the beauty of the NFL.  Everyone has a fair shake to try to become better.  It's all about the leadership at the top.

No such thing as no mans land in the draft if the gm knows what he's doing. Good players are found everywhere.

Hmm, I might have to modify what I said a little. Winning always feels better than losing. I remember sitting in the stands back in '99 versus the Titans. Yeah, losing sucks, I will grant you that. I guess what I meant is that (to me at least) the goal is to make it to the post-season. That is the golden ticket. If you don't make it to the post-season, you haven't made the goal, whether you are 7-9 or 1-15. I also think we are closer to making a run at the post-season at this time this year (with a worse record) that we were last year (with a better record). Your thoughts?
We beat Indy in a meaningless game back in Week 17 of 2011 and as a result, secured the Colts success for the next 15 years by enabling them to obtain the #1 pick - Andrew Luck.  I wanted to lose that game and there were so many people excited here because we could take the Gabbert momentum into the following season.

Since that game we are 6-26 and the Colts have won the division in 2013 & 2014.

I'm attending a meeting later today where I'm going to have to stand and introduce myself, something akin to  " Hello... My name is Joe and I'm a Jaguars fan"  I hear they have cookies, so it won't be all bad....

There is no Andrew Luck this year.
