Quote:I'm talking about his time here, he wasn't a players coach. I don't really care how much players love or hate their boss, I care about them performing and the Head Coaches job is to get results.
So what the team hasn't quit on him, what's they got us 2 wins? It's all a moot point, next year he either gives us results or it'll be time to move on, even if the fans, media and players all love the guy. Win or go home.
There is a delicate balance Eric. You have to have some type of personality and rapport with the players/Front Office as a coach otherwise you risk loosing them when you're faced with adversity. Mularkey is a good example of this taken from comments of players who were around then. So is Harbaugh. He currently has one foot out the door despite his amazing head coaching record. The 49ers haven't been relevant in decades and are willing to fire the one guy who has put them back on the map. Why do you think that is?

You are entitled to your opinion.

Quote:As I've stated on here before, it is unwise to dump a head coach after only two seasons... even bad ones. It takes time to build a winning team, and Gus has had to start almost from scratch with the Jags. Has he made mistakes? Certainly, but keep in mind that he is a rookie head coach himself and there is a learning curve involved here too.
I think that much of the unhappiness that has been aimed at Gus is the result of the decision to gut the team as massively as was done and go with so many rookies. I'm sure that Dave and Gus talked about this move ahead of time and realized the likely short term consequences of it; but I'm still pretty sure that it was the right decision, even if it means we stink for a few years.
To be sure, Gus has his annoying foibles (don't we all?) but he nevertheless was the best choice available at the time we needed a new head coach. Sure, we would prefer to hire a coach with prior super bowl winning experience as a head coach... but none were available at the time. Gus has prior experience as a super bowl winning defensive coordinator, and the players seem to believe in him enough not to give up. That's more than what can be said for some prior coaches we've had here...
Fans are going to be fans, and haters are gonna hate. So be it. I for one say stick with Gus and Dave give them the time to build a winning franchise. Consistency in leadership and direction is probably one of the most overlooked yet key ingredients for a winning team.
I agree. A majority of fans when polled or asked in threads wanted a coach such as Bill Cowher (former Steelrs HC), and Gus in a way is a lot like Cowher. If you wish to compare neither Cowher nor Pete Carroll ever had as bad of a season as Gus had in this season and last year. They did however both have stout defenses, all of which could've even been called cheerleaders for their players. Carroll is known for his high-energy and often pleasant demeanor when coaching, which is probably where Gus got a lot of his coaching character.
The best way to tell if a team is improving is by winning. I can understand at 2-10 after finishing 4-12 last season why so many fans are calling for his termination, but the team was gutted & it will take time to improve the roster. I expect after this draft that a lot of key peices are in place and the team should finish at least 8-8 next season if not better. If the team doesnt get at least 8 wins next year then sure I might even be one of the individuals posting about it, but at this stage I feel we need to support Gus as our favorite team's Head Coach.
Quote:Tom Coughlin players hated him but guess what he was a great coach. I don't care how much his players love him, his job is to field a winning team. He has until next year to field a winning team or it'll be time to move on.
I agree on the stance of whether or not players like him doesnt matter. They are all professionals and should play to the best of their abilites regardless of whether or not they like the HC.
I agree that he does have until the end of next season to prove himself, because I dont think Shad Khan is going to fire him even though so many fans are demanding it.
I think Gus Bradley will suprise a lot of people next year.

There's some hurt females up in this thread...
The signs are there for this club to keep getting better. Khan has the money, Gus has the motivation and players love playing for him, let's hope that translates into a great FA, again..

Absolutely, but the priority is results. I think players want to play for guys that get results, no one wants to be apart of a losing organization. Players don't go to New England because the head coach is a good guy, get what I'm saying?

I'm hopeful but the kind of turn around we're expecting between this year and next year is nothing short of movie style miraculous events.

Hopefully Gus feels the same way because if he doesn't, he will most likely be out of a job.
If he goes 2-10, you can bet we will have an interim HC during our 13th game.
Quote:My sentiments exactly. A lot of people here want a coach like Harbaugh but he's not a players coach. Honestly I don't give a crap if he's a players coach or not. When I see the moron jumping around like a buffoon after winning his 6th game ever, I just cringe. I mean at least get some competent / quality assistants and coordinators.
Exactly. 6-22 overall, and 2-10 this season. Jumping around like you win the super bowl, shows he doesn't realize the overall picture and status this team is currently in. This team looks like it has most of the pieces to put a competitive/winning team, however, these coaches look like they are trying to figure out ancient symbols without the Rosetta stone. Too many mistakes and lack of awareness.
I think Caldwell made some good picks, but the coaches lack the experience and the smarts. I could care less if the players like him. When TC was here, they hated him. Fined them for being late, not wearing suits, etc. Yet, they went to two AFC championships in 4 years. In today's standards that's Patriot like.
He jumped around with the team after a huge comeback win? FIRE HIM NOW!!!!

His level of celebration was equivalent to when a team is down big late in a game and a D Linemen gets a sack and celebrates like he did something special.
Good for him getting a sack but his team is getting blown out, it's nothing special and he looks foolish.
Good for the Jags getting a win, the 2nd of the season, the 6th of GB's career in 28 total games as an NFL head coach. It's all about perspective...some people see the bigger picture, some don't.

It's really not all that. Just look at the Chiefs' records since '08. They go from 6 wins total over three seasons to winning their division the following year. And they go from a 2 win season to an 11 win season from 2012 to 2013.
Edit: nobody made a movie about them.
Bradley feels like another JDR. I'm not sure I'm entirely sold on him.

The 2012 team had loads of talent. They just had injuries and weren't playing to their potential. That's not a good parallel.

What's the difference between your talent being injured vs underdeveloped? Effectively nothing.

How did they reach that potential? Did they hire a new coach? lol

Oddly enough, after a quick internet search, it seems they did hire a new head coach between 2012 & 2013.
