Quote:How often do truly good OL men hit free agency? I mean, look at Beadles. The guy is trash. Any long term staple at OL you want on your team will be drafted, not picked up in FA.

Why the hell did we trade Monroe?

No clue. My guess is they knew he wouldn't sign another deal and took what they could get for him instead of getting nothing. That is the only logical thing I can come up with. I hope I am right, because if I am not, our GM isn't good.
I say sign a VETERAN guard like Iupati. We have veterans on defense but offense beadles is a joke. Bring in someone like Iupati who has blocked for Gore and Kapernick. Draft the rest, we have to spend some money this year and it should be to help fix the offense a bit.

That's the conclusion I came to.  A 4th and 5th round draft choice for half a season's use was a great deal.  And after the year Baltimore had a difficult time resigning him.
Quote:The defense has to win games when you're starting 5-6 rookies on offense.  Do people really think you can start 5-6 rookies on offense and put up 21 points a game? This is a "post college grad" offense playing seasoned vets with 5-10 years in the league.  This Oline would get eaten alive if it had to play a game against our Dline.

Pretty much agree with this. Unless your rookie QB is luck no offense is going to even sniff being mediocre playing as many rookies as we are. In theory these struggles should set us up for a better year next year. Not all the pieces will be the same, but this playing time is very valuable for the players, even if they are struggling.
I don't know if any offense in recent history has played this many rookies in so many critical areas.

I think we may get steamrolled next week by the Texans.  A lot of things came together today for this 1-point win.  +3 in turnovers for one thing.  Turnovers turning into TDs for another.  The Texans are a more complete team and a bigger challenge.  I expect the Jags to play hard though.  You have to give that to Gus.  Most coaches would have lost their team at 1-10, or last year at 0-8, but the Jags still play hard, and it was great to feel the energy of that defense.  I noticed the crowd also getting behind the offense on those late critical drives, and it seemed to really help.  If they CAN beat the Texans next week it's a big step forward.

I'm really happy for all of Jag Nation tonight.  Coaches, players, alumni, owners, fans.  It's a good day, an historic day, and whatever happens going forward we should certainly enjoy this one.

The T-U had this little stat about Blake.

Despite the pounding he took,he was 13-18 115 yards 1td and ran for 35,all in the second half

Blake would look so much better; the team would look so much better; with a good offensive line.   I don't know what the solution is, but I hope we invest a high draft pick in at least one offensive lineman, perhaps a tackle.

Yeah right Ryan O'.

Uh,, let's not spin this into a BB led 21 point comeback.

If it wasn't for the defense's huge 14 points from fumbles,, the score would've ended up around 31-10, 34-13.

Reel back the spin buddy.

While it wasn't some offensive inspired win, I'm sure in other comebacks the D played a role.

Every come back you need both sides of the ball to do their job.  Obviously this wasnt all Bortles but he did do his part as well
Quote:What I say today was that Blake can make the throws but we need to fix up the OL a little bit. Watching that play when Hurns got hit by Rolle, I saw him step up buy extra time, OL did good blocking there to give Bortles enough time to sling that ball to Hurns. Unfortunately he didn't hold on but he good thing he wasn't hurt too bad that play. I'm watching the GB/NE game and all I can see is how much time Aaron Rodgers has in the pocket is unbelievable. Think about Blake Bortles with that type of time in the pocket. Would he be a much better QB or is it his mechanics are bad or is it really Fisch? Fisch has bad play calling but ultimately I blame the OL for not give BB5 enough time to throw getting hit and sacked within 2 seconds that ball is hiked.
Dude this is the same OLine critized by everyone when Chad Henne was playing QB... it got tweaked a little but still isnt even average in the league... imagine if Blake had a great Oline and healthy WRs... different story this year if that had happened.

Im expecting a better OL next year, or we will be in this same boat of getting sacked 4+ times a game

Not sure that is correct. We do need a left guard, but Bortles is a one read QB that lack the ability to dissect defenses. I saw plenty of open receivers yesterday and he continues to throw to his first whether they are triple covered or not, and won't check out of bad plays at the line. Heck, even when he has eternity in the pocket, he is under or over throwing wide open receivers. Another big issue...If you are waiting until your receivers are coming out of routes to throw the ball, you are too late! Got to trust your receivers will be where they are suppose to be.

Because he was terrible in his second season and morons on the board called for him to be moved?

It's true, but Bortles wasn't as bad as you're thinking.

He had a passing TD called back by a terrible penalty, and had two poor decisions to go for 2 after a TD that held the team back, too.

Bortles had his best game from a decision making standpoint, but he made some bad throws, too. The one bouncing off the turf to Harbor sticks out in that regard as does one he bounced to Marcedes on a short out.

he wasn't terrible in his 2nd season.

was definitely better than Joeckel.

Whatever. This board was aflame with "Monroe sucks" threads.

I don't know what games you are watching, but Blake never had "eternity" in the pocket.  Never.

Because his contract was up at the end of the season.  He was going to become a free agent.
