Thanks for you valued input. Allow me to choose another descriptor...how about "when Bortles had time in the pocket". Work better? Either way, same result; Under throwing and overthrowing receivers. He had very few accurate throws yesterday and those crappy throws were entirely on him.

No doubt, he absolutely needs to improve and develop.   But without decent pass protection, that improvement and development becomes infinitely harder.
Quote:He's so much like Roethlisberger.  I am not sure how the OC hasn't realized this.  You limit him to the pocket and make him play like Brady and he's going to look bad behind an O-line with problems.  You let him run around and and throw it deeper and suddenly he looks like an NFL QB.

Agreed.

How many times did we seem them bootleg or roll him out in some fashion only to connect with a receiver in medium-to-deep passes in preseason and earlier in his starts? We've speculated about the reasons why he's regressed some, but his mobility in the pocket and legs seem to be a huge asset that they aren't utilizing.

The problem is you have to run the ball well for it to work. It probably would have done fine a few games ago when Denard was killing it, but yesterday the run got stuffed pretty well.

If you're not able to sell the run then the backside DE can just come after the QB when he rolls out, which happened a couple of times yesterday.
BB5 definitely made some errant throws but really I saw Tom Brady throw a couple at the feet of Gronk last night too. He needs time in the pocket and since we don't have the OL to give him time he must roll out to avoid sacks and tipped balls.

I don't know how the coaches believe in Bowanko and Linder and whoever replaces Pasztor but OL seems to be the most critical need in the draft. It's unfortunate too since we've spent 2 recent 1st picks on OL in Monroe and Joeckel yet we still need help?

Quote:Because he was terrible in his second season and morons on the board called for him to be moved?

So were you one of the geniuses that saw that he was playing terrible in his second season and didn't want him moved?
BB5 really reminded me of Rex Grossman today (from back in 2006 in the NFC Championship game). Rex was playing terrible the whole day, couldn't keep a drive alive to save his life, made one or two drives at the end of the game, and the commentators were all saying how grossman wasn't pretty but he got it done when it mattered. We have obviously seen how Rex has been since that season.

This was not a good game for Bortles. It wasn't terrible, but it was definitely a mediocre game with a couple highlights. I still feel like his first couple of games were better than this one. But it was nice to see Bortles get it done at the end. But I need more, he doesn't look like a guy who will become a franchise guy at this moment. But I feel like he did look that way earlier in the season. So I have to blame coaching. Hopefully the spark will return tho.

Quote:The line is horrible, bur Bortles could have played better too. Hes missing some routine throws that NFL QBs just cannot afford to make. I still have hope because his mechanics are so bad, and those at least can be corrected. Its very hard to fix those midseason when theres so many other things to focus on.

Im just glad we have a QB who can stay strong in the pocket and make plays with his feet. Thats what won the game today, not his arm.
I 100% agree with this.
I hope he can consistently play "as good" as yesterday.  Not great, but take care of the ball and use his legs to an advantage.

We just can't have games when he throws 3 picks or a couple of pick 6's anymore.
Quote:Guys, let's get real here.  We're not going to magically win more than 1-2 games tops.

The offense is the worst in the league and basically provides no real threat to any defense.

The two games we've won have been literally 3 turnovers, defensive scores, or turnovers that set up easy touchdowns.

If the opposing team just plays smart football and takes care of the ball, we have no chance.
Yeah, our D is starting to come around, but man is our offense bad right now.  I completely agree with the highlighted.

I saw multiple attempted rollouts yesterday that rolled Blake straight into a sack because somebody was missing their assignments. The D contained Blake to the pocket, not our play calling.
