Not reading through entire thread but I think CK can get success out of damaged goods Bortles until we draft his replacement. As we know all too well, a good coordinator doesn't make a good HC and vice versa.
Chip's Total/Pass/Rush/PPG:

2013: 2nd/9th/1st/27.6

2014: 5th/6th/9th/29.6

2015: 12th/12th/14th/23.6

2016: 31st/32nd/4th/19.3

The 9ers were terrible so I can't hold 2016 against him.
Quote:Low risk, high reward. I like it. If he fixes Blake, the Jaguars are a playoff team and he's a head coach again. If the offense stinks or he turns out to be a locker room disaster, fire him, during the season if necessary, and plug Hackett back in as the OC. I'm assuming Hackett stays around as the QB coach regardless, given his history with Morrone.

I hate it because he won't fix Blake. Chip Kelley needs a guy like Gabbert to drop back, turn around and immediately throw the ball. That's not Blake. Blake is about buying time either in the pocket or by escaping outside so plays can develop. We need an OC that can fit Blake's skill-set, and Chip Kelly doesn't do that at all. If Chip gets hired, we need to start looking for a new QB.

His numbers dipped in just about every category save PPG in 2014. More evidence his offense has been figured out be the rest of the league.

Jerrad is one of the trolls of the mb. Look at it from a sarcastic approach.
I'll say one thing....I'm no expert like some others on here but I recall watching a game on tv last year involving the 49ers and whatever scheme he was running had a lot of wide open receivers breaking loose....but as we know, Gabbert wasn't hitting those guys by underthrowing or just being blatantly inaccurate

If this was sarcasm, you did that
I am leaning more in favor of this than against it. For starters, it's just one side of the football he has to focus on. I think he'd be great at that. Chip should also have a major chip on his shoulder to prove his salt to the NFL after what happened in Philadelphia and San Francisco.

Another reason I like this idea is because Bortles is a fast paced, quick thinker and up tempo QB. This would help him out I think in the long run.

Another thing to keep in mind is Nick Foles. Not 100% sure what Kansas City's plans are with him during the off-season but if he's available I could easily see Caldwell, Coughlin and Marrone aiming to bring him in as Bortles' back up and Henne's replacement. It makes a ton of sense.

What is this team's fascination with coaches who run gimmicky systems?

Quote:I seen what Chip did with Marriota.  And he was the equivalent of Brady in the nfl in college.   Chips offense allows a bunch of weapons to be used.  So is tougher to defend against.  Cause the majority of passes wont just go to Robinson.   He will train Blake to see more of the field faster.  So would benefit lee and Hurns as well.

However if chip is hired.  They Walters with his quick reaction time and hands should be here as well.   His system does not require TE all the time.  So can run more receivers. And without having a bunch of te options anyway would work.  Grant or Cook would benefit in Chips offense.  Ivory would do well and Yeldon could end a receiving Rb for the most part.  So could run Yeldon and a TE.

Plus you have to through NE.  And his fast paced system.  Could tire Brady out.

And hiring chip would make us relevant in the Afc South again

But here is the curveball in all of this.  If Tom was looking at trading or grabbing Tyrod to compete with Blake.

Chip Kelly system would benefit Tyrod as well.  And Tyrod does not have the same issues Blake does.

But wait....you said Coughlin doesn't like running QBs.

lol

the discrepancy between 13/14 isnt big enough to draw a conclusion. 15/16 both had significantly worse personnel.

It all goes back to never getting the Fun n Gun.
I like Chip, and I do think he is a good Offensive coach.. I personally just don't believe he is the right guy for this job. I believe the Jags need a good coach that can help develop Bortles... And use players to their strengths on the offense side of the ball.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, don't want to read through 15 pages, but I would think if Chip is the OC, we'd have to seriously consider trying to obtain Nick Foles to back up BB in case he implodes again.

Totally agree... we might even think about trading Blake while were at it.

But even better.... don't hire Chip.

I think it is funny. Everyone cries for a big name and then when we are possibly close to hiring a big name everyone cries that they don't want the Jags to hire him. I don't get this place sometimes.

Very intrigued by this.  The one hand I'm afraid of what the media and "experts" say about him and how the NFL figured him out already but on the other hand both the Eagle and 49ers offense was decent.  I say go for it, whats the worst that can happen?  Jags go 3-13...oh wait.

That's not evidence of that.  There's a lot of other factors.  Injuries, personnel lost, etc

Tis true. I wanted McCoy but figured we wouldn't get him. Otherwise, I was confused as to who our guy might be. I think we have the players to make Chip's offense successful, but I don't think it's a playoff offense. I want a true pro style offense back in Jacksonville, and would prefer not to go to a hurry up, spread offense. I would take Norv's complex pro style offense over Chip's, but I'm not completely opposed to Chip. As long as he makes adjustments to the system.
