Quote:When does nurturing 1 or 2 students in spite of the well being of the university, which has thousands of others to nuture, take precedent?

Its called the greater good.

Lord save me from the greater good. If you want to sacrifice yourself for the greater good, fine. If you agree to let others volunteer to sacrifice themselves for the greater good, fine. If you want to sacrifice someone against their will for the greater good, that's immoral. True in big things and in small.

When does protecting the rights of 1 or 2 criminals take precedent over the public safety of many more citizens?

The answer to both is when you care about the greater good long term. Due process is there for a reason. I refuse to get drawn back into the discussions from 12th grade government, but suffice to say the railroading at Duke hurts its students far more than FSU not suspending Jameis will hurt its students.
Quote:If Treon makes it to the NFL, it will come up during the draft (the allegations), and thereafter every time he slips up.

In today's media cycle nothing is old news.

My point is, with those allegations, whether you're suspended or not, the mark remains.

Same point im making. So in essence we agree.
I don't think there's a stigma whatsoever attached to Harris right now.

@TravC59

You're also someone who stayed informed and knows how and why the investigation was dropped. There are many people who read the news that "UF player suspended for suspected sexual assault" and didn't read the much less splashed headline that the investigation was dropped or only read that it was dropped and didn't click on the article to read why.

That's the way it always is. People pay more attention to the splashy scandalous beginning than any facts that come out later.

Sure there are some like that, but I think the majority who follow college football and followed this story understand what the conclusion was.

There are many people out that (read: potential employers) that don't follow college football the way we do.

If a potential employer doesn't have the decency to look more into a future employees past (that he wasn't charged)...then I wouldn't want to work for that employer anyway.

Good for you.

Great thought out response to a perfect point. Well done.

What? It is literally good for him. In this day and age, many people don't have the luxury of turning down potential employers. It wasn't meant to be snarky.

I wasn't either. It was a well thought out response.
