Did you see how many Non Gator fans showed up to Denver's practices?  The craze was national, not just Gator fans....is it shocking that a national craze developed for and the epicenter was the most hardcore?

 

If Jameis had the same background as Tebow....the FSU fan base would go just as crazy.  Tebow's popularity went well beyond the football field.  Jameis's popularity decline because of what happened off the football field.

Yea you will never hear a radio commercial from a law firm urging fans to not support the jags because of an FSU player that wasn't drafted by them or have a plane fly over the stadium calling for a player to be signed to your team. The Tebow years were unbearable and the gator following was beyond obnoxious.

Lets not forget there were many many many Gator fans that fought just as hard against him coming here.

Look at how right he was. Tebow was horrible in the pros and is now a broadcaster...enough said.

Again, it wont be the same with Jameis because the situations aren't remotely close.  The only reason most of your fan base is able to see past what he's done is because you know you have no shot at a national title if he's gone. 

 

What is more telling?  A guy that a fan base became infatuated with and was very vocal (to the point of being completely obnoxious...we agree there) about a player that was a good guy, but not a great NFL talent.  Or....a guy that at the time said should be booted off the team, and forgiven only because of what he can do on the football field?

Quite the opposite with Jameis. His hometown has turned his back on him. Not happy with him at all, and it all goes back to his days before high school.

I'm sorry that just isn't the case. Nole fans have not been known to push FSU players on the Jaguar fan base. Gator fans have been even before tebow. That's just the arrogance of gator nation (not everyone).

Some down plays how fanatical gator fans were and the years we had to deal with tebow/gators on this board.

It won't be the same with any other fan base. We will never see that again IMO. Wouldn't have mattered if Jameis didn't get in trouble.

I don't think its being down played....maybe in your mind.  I think we all know how crazy it got during the Tebow time here....that happens when you win a couple national titles and your qb somehow becomes a national lightning rod.  What people, including me, are trying to say is that Tebow was not just a Gator phenomenon...it was national.  Were Gator fans the most hardcore? Shockingly, yes.

I know it wasn't just Gator and I've said as much a million times. I'm simply saying no fan base has pushed a player on another fan base more than gator fans did with tebow. You tried to compare him to Matt Jones which makes me think you really don't know how crazy/bad the boards were. There is nothing, not one other player or fan base, to compare it to.

idk about that. those law firms probably want jameis to stay local. they make quite a bit off of him.

You're right...I didnt know.  I quit rooting for UF (my wife went there so I rooted because of that) because of it.  I don't know.

 

I think some people here don't understand what an opinion is.  You can have yours, I can have mine...and neither could be right.

I remember this. Same group who put on a rally down at the stadium for the Jags to sign Tebow. They advertised it for a few weeks. When all was said and done a grand total of 15-20 people showed up. It was absolute pandemonium down there. They almost had to set up barricades to keep the crowd back.

No school has ever had the player with the enigma of Tebow. Certainly not to the point where non fans of the team rallied around him from the east coast to the west.
