I think a good question to ask is do people believe Bortles is the guy because the QB play in the past hear was so bad? Blaine Gabbert is the worst QB I've seen since Spergen Wynn

so its not hard to be better than Gabbert. However is Blake was replacing say Aaron Rodgers would people still think he's "The Guy".

I'm absolutely positive that he may or may not be the answer.
Blake Bortles will have to improve upon his mistakes (PS he's  A ROOKIE!!), but I feel that he is the best QB the team probably has ever had once he gets a great supporting cast around him.

Only think that scares me a little is some passes Bortles throws just look to die and flutter.  Other than that he has all the makings

to early, but yes

My concern with Blake is not his ability. I think he has the arm, the pocket presence, the mental fortitude.

I just can't say for sure he will ever succeed here with this current coaching staff.

Bortles will be a franchise quarterback for us.  He has a lot to learn though.

Not at all so far, but he gets another year at least, so we'll see then.

Quote:My own rule is I like to give a QB around 40 starts before I judge if he's "the guy" or not

I heard them say that last night about Ryan Tannehill.

As of Thursday nights game Rt was 20-21 as a starter and since he won last nights game he is now 21-21.

When I see RT I don't see franchise QB, but I don't get to see a lot of Dolphins games anymore.

I wonder if people on here would be happy with BB if he was .500 after those 40 starts? He would have to go 19-14 in his next 33 starts to get there.

He's not off to a very good start at 1-6, but as we all already know, he's really not in a very good situation here as a starting rookie QB.

I also notice that a lot of his passes seem to flutter through the air and that is somewhat worrisome to me too.

That is a very valid point about the coaching staff you make.

I'd be happy if he was around .500.  Tannehill isn't all that bad to me, I think he's a decent starting QB.  I was satisfied with Garrard here, so I don't really expect much.  But, right now, we absolutely suck.
I am and have been a huge fan of Bortles. But for now I agree that some of his passes tend to die and flutter. Though he improved that last week at the cost of some accuracy, which is to be expected. What I'd really like to see is his long ball improve. This to me is his biggest weakness. He has missed on too many of those on the few chances he has been given. Bridgewater is better than him on that score.
Asking for 'simple' replies to what is really a fairly complex question isn't fair. Is Blake the Guy? We don't know yet... no one does. If he had come out with Andrew Luck type performance (or even Blaine Gabbert like moves...) then it would be easier to give an unqualified yes or no. The fact is... it's difficult to find and recognize a raw diamond in the ground; unless closely scrutinized, they can be mistaken as a plain rock and discarded... only to be picked up by someone with more patience and a better eye for gems.

Young quarterbacks are in some ways like that too. We've all seen and already know that Blake has the raw makings... the potential... to become a franchise quarterback; maybe even a rare 'elite' quarterback. Barring disastrous injury, he could realize that potential at some point; the question is will he and will it be for the Jaguars or someone else?

Frankly, the team can choose to keep 'rolling the dice' as it were on rookie quarterbacks and not have any better odd's than they have with Bortles. The problem with doing that is that you tend to compromise the development of the one at the expense of the other; and in the end, you could be worse off. If we had a shot at an Andrew Luck caliber type quarterback then by all means we should go for it; but QB's like Luck are as rare as... well, as rare as that big diamond found in the field.

What we do have is Blake Bortles. I say lets stick to our guns and run with this kid until he proves beyond a shadow of doubt to us and himself that he isn't the one for us. And while it has become redundant to point this out it nevertheless is true...Manning also struggled his first year. Let's wait and see what we got; a diamond, or a bust.

I voted yes as well.  He is a rookie, and rookies struggle.  The whole team is struggling, which makes it harder for BB.  The funny thing is.  You see these guys that were rocking it their rookie year, and most of them fizzle out by year 3.  Look at Newton/Dalton/Sanchez.  They were the new great QBs.  Newton/Dalton have been terrible this year.  Sanchez found himself on a good team, so...

BB is going to be good.  He is going to work hard, and learn from this year, and next year will get better, and by year 3 everyone will be talking about him like they do Luck.  Maybe we can two elite QBs play twice a year, who knows?

The question was simple, in no way was the replies expected to be so.  Good responses so far though.

I agree its hard to 'know' but polling gives the sentiment at this point in time.  I think it'll be interesting to look back after the season at what the expectations were.  Time mends a lot so the current perspective is important I think.
I still say "Yes". I am attributing the inaccuracies lately to bad mechanics, which I'm hoping he can fix in the offseason (much like he did early on). He had a stretch of bad decisions that led to INTs (like that redzone INT off a scramble, for example), but I think that's just him trying too hard to make a play.

Once he gets his mechanics down and he improves his decision making, I think he's the guy.

My friend i don't know what you're smoking but you might need to get a refund for your product if you honestly think Mack and JJ Watt is the same player. lol. Hell, base on the stats he isn't derrick harvey as a rookie so for the love of god lets all chill on kalil mack hype who team by the way is 0 and 9.
So you're a stat sissy? Bringing up Mack's numbers when he has 7 more games to play is showing what? Nobody said Mack was JJ Watt you riri; matter of fact you don't know what the hell he is now. Why are you even comparing a linebacker to a defensive end anyway? Funny you put up the Raiders record to down them like this Jaguars team is killing it just so you can try to prove a point which was stupid. And the one game we did win your Peyton Manning comparable was awful in it. But do you lil boy.

True. I remember when I used to get a whipping from my dad when I was a kid (I'm 58 now). At the time, all I understood was whippings hurt. Now, I look back at the good it did me... (limping away....).
(If) he is playing like this at this time next year.................EMPHATICALLY NO!
