Serious question. If the Jags are under .500 this time next year, would you still have faith in this coaching staff as a whole?

This time next year I would expect considerable improvement. We should at least be in the wildcard playoff hunt late into the season not all but eliminated by week 9.

I'd have concerns, but the record alone isn't enough to judge upon.  I'd have to factor in how the team is playing - how close the losses are and all that tedious stuff.  A 3-6 Jaguars team to start 2015 would suck, but depending on who we are playing and how we are losing, it might be "begrudgingly acceptable." If they are 3-6 with more blowouts - or with ineptitude showing on the field from non-rookies and poor game management, then see below.

If they are 2-7 or worse after 9 games next year I'll be all about cleaning house in the coaches corridor at EverBank.  I just don't see it happening though. I think they finish competitively this season and take a stride next year.

Ok so both of you expect moderate improvement. This is what I expected this year considering we had our second half momentum last year. I wasn't expecting a winning record but with all the new pieces defensively I expected a couple more wins. To be honest the Miami , Eagles, Pittsburgh and titians games should have been wins. This team should be somewhere around 3-6 or an over achieving 4-5. But 1-8!!!??? I think the best case scenario is two fold. Either the staff and team takes a nice leap in the positive or the team takes another step back forcing a coaching change.

I expected about 2-7 or 3-6 at this point this season as well.  The fact of the matter, IMO, is that the sheer number of rookies and stretches of poor QB play made that impossible.

Could coaching have been better?  Abso-friggin-lutely.  My gripes:

I don't like that it took so long to give Denard more snaps.

I don't like that it took so long to make the O-line look remotely functional.

I don't like that special teams has become an issue when it was fine last year and the bottom of the roster is improved.

I don't like that Bradley apparently had to take hold of the reins on defense in an effort to keep offenses from exposing our zone coverage so frequently.

I don't like that Bradley had to learn some game management skills "on the job."

I don't like running on 80% of the first downs in a game - including every time on the first six possessions.  ( I'm ALL about establishing the run, but we can do it without telegraphing how to stop us on first down a little better. )

There are issues with the staff IMO, but I think what has made the team suffer has been youth, inexperience and bad QB play.

If Bortles puts the work in and we can shore up FS and LB,  I think the team and the coaches look a hell of a lot better next season.

NYC, I agree with most of your points as usual. To add, my biggest gripe this season can be summed up pretty shortly:

Why did the team look so wholly unprepared to start the season. It almost looked as if we hadn't gone through 4 preseason games.

It seems they placed entirely too much confidence in the ramshackle O-line and when they had to scramble to adjust it and plug in rookies the aftermath resulted in a protection debacle and an incredibly slow start to establishing a run game.

Thankfully - the rookies Caldwell picked are saving their butts right now.

I can't wait for this time next year.

If you expect and are ok with this team having a losing record next year then the Jaguars front office isn't the problem the fans who subscribe to this thinking is.

Agreed, but I was speaking more to the defense. I mean, Mother of God, the amount of blown assignments!

Oh, OK.  Yes, this is why Babich has been the only staff member I've questioned thus far.  I was and am surprised that it took this long to make adjustments in the back 7.

I would be absolutely satisfied with a 7-9 or 6-10 record next season as long as we are at least in contention for the playoffs going into the month of December. A 9-7 record would leave me pleasantly surprised. I expect this team to take that leap next year but I also realize we will still be a very youthful team that will experience its ups and downs.

If you are actually expecting a 10-6 record next year it isn't me with a problem.

LOL.  Yeah, because my opinion on the progress of a young roster has any bearing on what happens at EverBank. SMH.

Are you really this dumb, or are you just playing out your schtick?
We have had some issues to say the least on ST, I'm not sure what happened but the blocked punts and Fg and stuff needs to stop. I do have to say Toddman on returns has been pretty nice spot for him. Sanders has not been doing too well tho...

I very loosely follow the Bears and have never been a big Babich backer, I expect he's out of here at the end of the season.

Has anyone seen anything from the local media on Bradley "taking over" the defense? It's astounding to me that we heard about this on a national broadcast, and no one local has had much to say or expounded on it.

I've seen nothing thus far in the media.  I did send Oehser a question about it. It seems to be helping, so  I'm all for it. Wish he'd have done it sooner.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the past few weeks we've seen a little more press and man coverage from the corners?  Seemed like Babich had them lined up off of the line more often early in the season.

LOL.  I feel very calm. Am I not supposed to respond to a post that implies I'm "part of the problem?"
