First of all, my answer is absolutely not. I'm just shocked that a FSU (and Jaguars) fan on the College Football forum I frequent is saying things like this:
"No he isn't. Love my Jags, and I think Bortles was a good pick, but he doesn't even inhabit the same football universe as Winston."
and
"And if I turn out right am I biased? There's actually very little bias in my projection. Unless, you can point me to all the scouts and what not who have ever mentioned Winston and Bortles as having comparable talents. I've watch Bortles, and your rot he could potentially be a top 3 QB, but according to expert opinions Jameis does just about everything better (off-field behavior no included)."
Is this FSU fan off his rocker or is this a common train of thought by FSU fans?
I don't know how you turn away from a rookie qb that has shown what Blake Bortles has. Winston at times hasn't shown up in the big time games, and his off the field stuff really worries me. It's juvenile and just dumb....who knows what giving him a few million dollars would do to him.

Just for clarification purposes, what NCAAF team do you affiliate with?

Dumb, dumb, dumb, whoever that was.

No not all FSU fans think this, matter of fact this is first I heard from any fsu fan. Winston great college QB, but so was tebow. Means nothing in the NFL.
I would be worried about how JW turns out, in a negative way.
At this time I don't see him going #1 right now, not even sure about top 5, but he will probably go in the 1st round though, if he comes out.

UCF
Edit: I can be just as judgey about pretty much any college football program out there. I root for pretty much all the Florida teams to do well. So rooting interest doesn't really bother me. If a team or player does something dumb, I dont see sides.
Quote:I am a huge FSU fan and been one since I was 4. Winston would not be better than Blake in the NFL. Watching him this year he looks like he has regressed. He has shrunk in some games this year and his maturity is just not where it needs to be to be successful in the NFL. It looks like his release has gotten even slower than what it was. That is the biggest thing to me.
I'm sure he'll be a solid guy in the league but I think Blake will have a way better career.
Not even the same football universe? That pretty much sums up his bias right there.
Didn't Caldwell himself say that if Bortles had stayed in school that he would've been largely seen as the number one overall pick in 2015?
Winston has definite Ryan Leaf potential. He's got all the talent in the world, but he's an immature head case who's as likely to ruin his career by stealing crab legs or shouting obscenities as he is to become a Pro Bowl quarterback. He definitely won't go first overall, if for no other reason that he can't seem to stay out of trouble.
Bortles, on the other hand, has flashed a lot of talent as a rookie. He's also a model citizen off the field, and it's worth considering that if the Jaguars traded him, even for the #1 overall pick, they'd almost be forced to spend two top-three picks on quarterbacks in two years. On a team with this many needs, even if they weren't sold on Bortles, that would be idiotic.
Yes, I'd much rather have an immature QB with off the field problems and an elongated throwing motion.
One thing going for Winston and his translation to the NFL is that he already runs a pro style offense. why gamble on someone who might be good when you already have someone who is showing he is good. Not a logical FSU fan imo.

definitely not. even if it was say, for mariota, its seemingly a lateral move if bortles never had experience in the nfl.
at this point bortles knows the offense and has nfl experience and has shown us that he can be a good quarterback. he has the whole team rallying around him already. trading him would be terrible for team morale.
furthermore in terms of jameis being better than bortles? thats laughable. even eliminating his off field issues.
i dont think he is smart enough to be successful in the nfl, reading defenses.
he is a pretty slow runner.
not extraordinarily accurate
and has a slow release
fsu fans.......

What big time game has Winston not shown up in?
Not sure why you'd even consider it.
The best thing you can get with a first round pick, is a franchise QB.
And we've already got him.
