The consummate professional QB. Like Dalton, he doesn't wow you with his measurables or arm strength, but he has great anticipation, really good accuracy and limits mistakes. The dividing line to me is the top 16 QBs, and Smith is definitely in the top half. He's never going to put up gaudy statistics, but he will keep leading Kansas City to wins. A 2-3 record for Kansas City isn't terrible considering the schedule (TEN, at DEN, at MIA, NE, at SF).

Previous: 16

Stafford has always had arm talent that is second to none, but he isn't moving up my board, primarily because of his mental mistakes and inability to find repeatable mechanics. You don't always have a clean pocket in the NFL, but Stafford throws from too many arm angles and platforms for my liking. That jumps out the most to me when I study his tape. He's also been the most sacked QB in the NFL this season, with 21. The Lions are an impressive 4-2 because of their defense. Can Stafford finally show more consistency?

Foles has been a little erratic this season. While I didn't expect a repeat of his performance last season (27 TDs, two INTs), he's in an amazingly aggressive passing system under Chip Kelly that is QB-friendly, so there's an expectation that he should perform well and put up big numbers. He's shown the ability to make some tough throws, but he's made some poor decisions with where he's gone with the football. You want NFL QBs to be around a 2.0 percent interception percentage (INTs compared to total attempts). Foles is at 2.9 percent this season.

At this point, you know what you're getting with both of these QBs. Cutler (as always) must do a better job of protecting the football, but he can make all of the throws and will give his receivers a chance to make plays downfield. Palmer is coming off an elbow injury, but has yet to throw an interception this season. The Cardinals have a good enough defense to win if he can limit his turnovers and his line does a good job of giving him time to distribute the ball.

Previous: 26

Hoyer has been the nicest QB surprise of the season. I'm a huge Brian Hoyer fan. He's a guy who's been knocked down a bit, had to overcome adversity and has battled back. Hoyer is in a great system under Kyle Shanahan, and doesn't have the pressure on him to win games. You can see his improvement from Week 1. While he probably won't keep up his 7-1 TD-to-INT ratio, he doesn't need to put up big numbers for the Browns to win. This offense has rallied around him and he's earned that starting job.

To me, these guys are roughly the same right now. They both need a strong supporting cast to have success. I think Glennon can be the guy in the long term in Tampa Bay. He shows on tape that he knows where to go with the football, he has the arm strength to make every throw and he has very consistent mechanics. Tannehill still has too many inaccurate throws, though I think working with new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor will help him. He needs to show me more, though.

Previous: NR

He's played, quite honestly, like a fourth-round draft choice since Robert Griffin III went down. In my opinion, Cousins is a backup QB who can be a stopgap solution for a team when the starter goes down (like Washington's current situation). When he's forced to be the every-week starter, his flaws get exposed. The most noticeable issue I've seen on tape is that he stares down receivers and takes LBs and safeties right to the ball. This was most evident in his disastrous four-INT game against the Giants in Week 4.

Previous: NR

I'm seeing nothing but positive things from Bortles so far this season. Yes, his TD-INT ratio of 4-7 isn't ideal, but he is a rookie QB playing for a bad Jacksonville team and he's still had a QBR of greater than 58.9 in three of his four games. When you study the Jaguars' games, you simply don't see any true offensive weapons around him. I believe he has the talent to develop into a top-10 QB on my Big Board, I just hope he doesn't get shellshocked by the punishment he's taking behind a porous Jaguars O-line, as he's been sacked 11 times in 3.5 games. He's been resilient so far, however.

These two guys are solid placeholder QBs, who are both extremely competitive but also aware of their limitations. It's not as though I'm surprised by anything I see on tape at this point in their careers, but they've done enough to keep their teams competitive through the first part of the season. Both the Bills and the Texans will continue their search for true franchise quarterbacks while these guys keep their seats warm.

I love the upside of Derek Carr. Watching his tape against San Diego in Week 7, I saw him make every throw -- sticking a seam route, deep go routes, back-shoulder throws. He still has a small sample size, but the concerns people had over his ability to deal with pressure haven't materialized on tape. He's a little quirky in his mechanics, but he has a live arm. I think the sky's the limit for this kid.

It's the same old story for Locker: His athleticism is intriguing, but he's inaccurate (58.0 completion percentage in 2014; 57.3 for his career) and can never stay on the field.

I've seen some good things on tape with Bridgewater. He's a good game manager, and I mean that in the most positive way -- he's done a good job of running the Vikings' offense. I thought he was the most NFL-ready QB of this class coming out of college, and he can overcome his lack of an elite arm with his intelligence and anticipation. He got beat up last week against Detroit, but I'm not too concerned about the three INTs, as several were on tipped passes and the Lions' defense has frustrated a lot of QBs so far this season. I am a little concerned about his long-term health behind a struggling offensive line, though, as he has a smaller frame for the position.

Smith has simply left too many plays on the field this season. He played very well the last four games of 2013, but he's really struggled this year. When I've studied him on tape, I've seen that he can make every throw, but it's more about the throws he doesn't make -- he simply isn't pulling the trigger on passes when guys are open, and that's a big problem. I still think he gives the Jets their best chance to win this season, as opposed to Michael Vick.

Quote:You don't understand what people mean by "game manager." When people use that term, they are talking about a quarterback who is more game manager than anything else.

Umm I know what people mean by game manager although now by your explanation its even more clear to me. Smile
Quote:A game manager is someone who lacks the ability to carry the team on his back when they need it most. He's limited to the pieces around him.

If you're down by 6 with 59 seconds to go who would you rather have as your QB, Alex Smith (game manager) or Aaron Rogers (game changer)?

obviously you would want Rodgers because he is a much better player. I get what people mean by Game Manager, I just dont like the term that's all
A game manager is someone who won't win many games for you but also won't lose many games for you either.
Do anyone on here agrees or disagrees with where Jaws rank Bortles on this list and the evaluation he has given him?

Quote:Do anyone on here agrees or disagrees with where Jaws rank Bortles on this list and the evaluation he has given him?

I agree with it for the most part. I think he undersells the surrounding talent but that may be because they're young and unproven.

He hasn't played enough to be ranked higher though I'm confident he will be at least in the top have by season end. I think he'll surpass Luck in a year or two as well.
It's fair. I would not be surprised to see him in the top half next year.

So Locker moves up from NR to #30 without playing -- HA !!

I'd move Bortles ahead of Glennon and Cousins but maybe I'm bias.

Is Bridgewater even a game manager? He has zero touchdowns this year. Zero.

He has started 3 games. I didn't expect him to be put in the top 10.
I'm just happy the Jags have a QB on the list that's not ranked in the 30's.

CH and BG were always ranked 30 and beyond. UGH!!!!!!!!

Finally improvement at the QB position for the Jags.

Apparently you do since you obviously have to justify your alleged "toughness" with any and everyone on here. Internet friends...that's cute. Already started that bender again huh? Well, as the song goes, "It's 5 o'clock somewhere". Out of all the flavors in the world, you choose to be salty.

Pick and choose what to accept and what to disagree with but the things that match up are the word of god.
I remember arguing with many on here about Teddy (at the time assumed #1 overall pick).

It was less about me not being a "fan" of Teddy's and just looking inside his own conference at Bortles and seeing Bortles have as much or more success, statistically.

I remember using the SEC game that both AAC guys played. Teddy VS Kentucky and Bortles VS Scar (IIRC)

I said... why is Teddy #1 overall and Bortles is a "mid round" or "bust" by so many?

People laughed when I said Bortles could have as good or better a career in the NFL as Teddy, and likely be had later (again, this conversation was before combines and before bowl games)

While I obviously am not a scout, so I didn't know where guys would actually be picked... I was anti picking Teddy high. And pro picking Bortles later.

After the bowl games and combines, I was pretty much the same but thought Bortles could rise, maybe we could trade back and get him.

Funny thing is... I believe I wanted Manziel, Bortles, and Carr, all before Teddy.

I still stand by that.

Well... except Manziel. After the initial "wow" wore off with Manziel... I didn't want him and his attitude, at all.

Still don't.

I think they'll be both be "good" QB's, but Teddy is one of the guys who can't bail out a team with weaknesses (ala Peyton). Bortles looks like one of those guys who can excel on any team while Teddy has to have a team crafted around his specific skill sets.
