Ugh.  Boselli knows much more about the game of football than I do, but I don't think Luke played a great game.  It may be his best so far but that is indicative of a disappointing start to his career.

The Titans had 1 sack in the last 3 games, while we allowed them 6 on Sunday.  Your LT is a big part of the unit.  I hope he gets better but at this point, comparatively, he is not better than Eugene Monroe in his 2nd year. (or even first if you redshirt Luke).

Quote:You honestly think Boselli turned on the coaches tape after the game? More likely he went home, had a nice dinner with his family, got a good nights sleep and then just started talking on the radio for his easy paycheck of a job. With all due respect to Boselli. He's a great Jaguar. But to think he stayed up all night watching game tape is just naive. These guys get jobs in the media and they put it on cruise control. Most media types don't every really watch any of the games.

Agreed.

He def lives in Homerville.

He's out campaigning for Rick Scott, so watching game film isn't on the agenda.

He's also hired for marketing, ticket sales, etc. he ain't biting the hand that feeds him.

He treads lightly in his critiques.

But who cares. 0-6 again.

Where did he say he had a "great game"?
Quote:I heard him on the radio and he said he watched it. So you are saying he lied?
Don't think I said that... But I have my doubts. :-)

Hey, if he said he watched the tape, he watched the tape. I just take it with a grain of salt... Especially considering I didn't see the same thing.

Of course one would defer to the GOAT lineman for the Jags. I just don't see how he could say that was a good showing by Joekel.

Maybe he's parsing his words... Saying he had his best game in comparison to how horrible all his other games are, and he still looks bad is also not a ringing endorsement...
I heard the segment and I don't think it sounded like a ringing endorsement of Joeckel in any way. I think he was just trying to say he's not as bad as some perceive. He did say more specifically that Linder and Pasztor had much worse performances. And they did.

You know what, I'll retract my skepticism. I didn't even hear what Boselli said.

I'm just saying, from what I watched, I am not impressed with Joeckel considering his draft position and what all has transpired. The O-Line needs alot of work... And I'm not sure Joeckel is gonna be the type of LT we are hoping for to protect BB5
BOSELLI took a lot of head shots back in the day. Luke hasn't impressed me yet.

Quote:The problem with Joeckel is everyone uses Boselli as their barometer.

I don't expect another Boselli. I'd be happy if he just played as well as Khalif Barnes or Eugent Monroe. Using the #2 pick overall to downgrade a position is not the way to build a team. And yes, Monroe was in the last year of his contract. It's not all that difficult to find a way to make a player happy to re-sign, at least it shouldn't be for a competent GM.

From what I saw:

On the plus side, Joeckel didn't give up any sacks. at least the guy he was blocking did not get the sack.
But he was constantly losing ground quickly. He seems to lack the strength to play the position.

He's played 5 games as an NFL OLT and is coming off a broken leg.

Criticism of Joeckel at this point is premature.

If strength is the problem, that seems to be something that can be fixed with offseason training over time, I'd think.

Hey, lookie here!!! TMD preaching patience... Did FBT hack your account? LOL

No but seriously, you make a good point... But from watching him yesterday... He better have an exponential progression of competence over the rest of this season.

In this case I believe criticism of said player IS premature - I mean we're talking 5 starts...

I don't see my criticism of Bradley being premature at this point. We're now 22 games into his regime. Thats enough time for evaluation of the job he's doing to be discussed.
Quote:too bad his 'best game' wasn't enough to keep Bortles from getting sacked 6 times... or to help the team get a win.
It's not my intention to make Luke anyone's 'scapegoat', nor is it fair to point him out when there is more than enough blame to go around for everyone. The jags played sub-par football and allowed a struggling team that they could have beat to pull out a win.

poor run and pass blocking....

poor tackling....

poor ball security....

dropping passes....

poor judgement by the HC in challenging calls and resulting waste of timeouts....

we didn't have a chance with these elements working against us... and the most frustrating thing about this stuff is that most of this is football fundamentals!!!! It isn't 'bad scheming', it's just not doing the basic stuff very good....
Quote:TB must have been watching another game.  Every time I saw Joeckel he was getting blown up.

That's what I saw!

They probably don't realize that Boselli was one of the most talented left tackles in league history.

Overall, I think the line play in the league is pretty mediocre. Jake Matthews got embarrassed by Pierre-Paul last week. Guys like Boselli, Roaf and Walter Jones never had games like that, even as rookies.

This.

LTs get beat on one play, many fans act like he is Guy Whimper level.

Every left tackle gets beat.

I know he will be fine in the pass game, but I want to see him get much better against the run. Maybe he will after having a full season under his belt.
The pass protection from the line as a whole was absolutely horrible. Like the 10 sacks vs the 'skins horrible.  I didn't key in on Joeckel much, but I noticed two runs to his side shut down immediately.

When a QB with Bortles escapability is sacked 6 times - there are serious woes along the line. Those still complaining about the lack of downfield passing after witnessing that horrible pass protection yesterday need to reconsider how they watch football games.

He's hanging around back there too waiting for someone to get open . Let's not forget that. Lots of the sacks were a product of our rookie wideouts not being open.
That's why we ran 25 screens; no run game and little pass pro.
Remember how bad Monroe was at this stage?

That is definitely a factor as well.
