Quote:I'm not even sure what you are saying or what I said that was confusing. I stand by my suggestion that if you are using an android phone it makes sense to stick with the same platform when getting a tablet.

Why? They have nothing to with one another.

???

Any Android apps he purchased won't transfer over to an Apple device and vice versa.  If he gets a tablet and has a google account, all he has to do is log into his account and all his stuff will transfer over to the new device.  I'm sure it's similar for Apple.  If he moved to another platform, not only would the interface be different, but he'd have to re-download/re-purchase all the apps.  And some of his apps may not even be on the new platform or may behave differently.

If it's not an issue for him, then it's not an issue. He may not even want to use the same account. But in my experience, people usually don't want to change from a platform they are already familiar with even if the two are fairly similar.

If you think iPad is better than every Android tablet, explain why.

It is exactly the same with Apple and I agree, when you pick one it makes the most sense to stick to it.

Small example: When I buy music on my phone, it DLs to my iPad and iMac automatically for me.
Quote:Why would you want separate desktops?

So that you can create separate environments for different tasks. You can have one set up for gaming, one set up for casual browsing, one set up for work, etc. Basically it reduces clutter because you aren't having to deal with the windows from every task when you are working on one task.
Yes, it's easier to stick with one platform. Especially for apple users where they pay for a lot of their content.

Thank you sir...one for surfing, one for working, etc..

Gotcha, thanks.

I only have about a dozen icons so I don't think it's much of an issue for me  :teehee:

There are quite a few people (probably the majority) who won't ever have a need for it. It's absolutely brilliant for anyone that does have a need for it though.

The apps between tablet and phone are pretty much incompatible. I can run chronotrigger on my phone but not my ipad. I can get FTL on my ipad but not my phone. The apps I have on both is stuff like Netflix and hbo go which are free to download of course.

But you are probably right. I imagine there is some familiarity and some apps to transfer.

I don't have much experience in android tablets, but if they are anything like the phones, I wouldn't want one.

I can see a second use for certain tasks where you're working in one program but need to refer multiple other programs for the information you need. Instead of having to Alt-Tab between them all you could have the one you're working on full screen on one desktop and the other windowed in another desktop. Ideally, you'd have multiple monitors for something like this but no everyone is able or is willing to spend the money.

Multiple track audio recording.  Reverb alone uses a lot a processing power.

Ahhh, the joy of multiple effects plug-ins running at once.

Or to be more accurate; multiple effects plug-ins stalling and possibly crashing at once.

That's what I meant by "joy."    :teehee:
Related question; how many of you have more than one monitor. I have had dual monitors for a few years at home and at the job I started a year ago and I never want to go back. Even if I don't really need the second monitor I still don't like it if I'm forced to work on a single screen setup.

I do but not at home. I gave up on desktops and monitors because it took up a lot of space and I couldn't deal with all the wires. It would be tough using a single moniter at work though.

The hdmi ports died on my old 40" tv, so I use it as a 2nd monitor with the dvi, I use it at times, though I usually use it as a tv.

At work I used to have two monitors. I miss it. It was easier for me to stay organized and to keep things steady while keeping track of live events. Once I got upgraded to a laptop and a docking station at the job they gave me a decent sized monitor but didn't give me the option to have the 2nd one. Only a few folks at work now actually have that function. It drives me insane though. I can still use my laptop as a 2nd screen but's itty bitty and hard to read what I need with some of the programs that I like to keep up at all times. I don't really have a need for it at home. However, if I was ever granted permission to work from home with my current job I'd have that set-up on my own again in a heartbeat.
OK so here is my problem: I need a new desktop PC long before Windows 10 computers become widely available in electronics stores. My computer seems to be slowly dying  But I just got the monitor last year and don't want to even think about buying a Windows 8.1 computer knowing a year from now Windows 10 will be available. So I need a way to keep this computer working 12 more months.

Does anyone know a good way to make computers last one more year without spending a lot of money? It is not under warranty anymore and probably four years old.

Whats wrong with it?  I can say off the bat a clean install of windows will likely do it a world of good.

If the power goes out for a few seconds, it does not turn on again for the rest of the day. The reason I went to H.H. Gregg was after I had turned it off, it did not turn on again, so it seemed to be dead. Then we went to Best Buy and it turned on. So we went home, plugged it in, and voila! It worked again. Because of that scare, I changed it to never sleep.
