he wasn't ready in the first half? Did Bortles throw a couple of passes in the locker room at half time to show Gus he was ready?
lol..he's ready because 3 more weeks of the first half and Gus is looking for a job
Yanno... Even though we lost, for once I don't feel like setting my Jags TP on fire.....

Gus kept asking what Bortles should do on 1st and 10. The right answer was "Run Gerhart". He was never going to get it right. So this week, they changed it up. They asked him and Henne what do you do on 3rd and 8. Henne said 'throw a 7 yard pass', while Bortles said 'throw a 15 yard pass', so he got the start.
Quote:I think it was Gus, there was no way he could stay with the status quo after that first half.
It was the perfect opportunity to put Bortles in and see what he could do. His performance had a few glitches along the way, but it did bring the fans back to their seats, and he showed enough to bring a lot of hope moving forward.

I was wondering the same thing. After that half, you knew something was changing at half or Monday, either from the owner or coach.
I thought external pressure wasn't going to get Bortles to start, he would start when he was ready...blah blah blah. Khan told him to pull Henne after the stadium started emptying in the 2nd quarter.

That's what I'm saying. While it is a game and you want to stick to your plan, at the end of the day it's a business and seeing fans leave=seeing money leave which is no bueno for an owner.

Bortles threw those picks, bu they weren't "BAD" picks.
The first one, he attacked deep, identifying single coverage, and gambled that Robinson could make the play. The Colts' DB made a good play. The second one, Bortles was trying to do too much, but he at least put himself in a position to make a play, and once again attacked downfield.
I'd say Bortles' debut was a good one.
I don't think I have ever been this happy in the aftermath of a 44-17 loss.
The secondary coach needs to go. Our DB's were confused, out of position, and lost. Poor coaching. Period.

I'm fine with the mistakes. They're going to happen. Overall, he looked great out there. Losing sucks, but we left the stadium with a lot of hope.
That defense looked horrible the entire game. No pass rush at all. I'm more worried about that than the rookie qb at this point.
Bortles would have been better had they just went ahead and started him
Hi, I'm Gus... I don't realize facts as quickly as everyone else...
I promise to do a better job of watching the sun rise...
This coaching staff is on a short leash, as far as I'm concerned.
They basically wasted this entire game by being pig headed and not starting BB5 from the beginning.
We COULD HAVE TAKEN THESE GUYS!!!!
Beating the c'lots would have been HUGE! And we let them off the hook by starting Henne... What a waste!
Quote:Um. We know it was Gus. We know it was planned before this game. We know it wasn't a reversible decision - once Bortles saw the field, he became the starter for the foreseeable future (let's say... fifteen years...).
Now we just need to wait for the haters to start calling for Bortles to be benched/cut.
Um... how do we 'know' this?

I'm certain he could have won the Eagles game.
While this is great news, our defense sucks. Can we cover any tight ends? 3rd string TEs make our secondary look like Bolles.

By stopping them for putting up 34? Seriously?

You're not gonna win many games allowing that many points, regardless who your QB is.

Only if he was playing defense.
