Gus is the next Mike Singletary. Defensive minded head coach bust.
Quote:I guess it just took a 30-0 Halftime deficit to wake up and smell the stupidity.

Yup...

This is a possibility...

I honestly hope that Gus figures this out and either makes Fish step his coaching up on the offensive side, or get a new OC...

Conversely, I think BB5 can eventually become the QB that is the OC...  I really think this QB has it...  He's the QB we've been looking to acquire for a long time...
This is Gus Bradley

That's the face to the cameras...  He needs to start showing this face the the OC......

Gus Bradleys record here in Jacksonville is 4-15.  He's horrible. Please get us another coach.

Tom Coughlin was 5-14 after his first 19 games. And that was with some great draft allowances the first couple of years. Just saying, maybe you should give the guy a little more than 19 games.

Wait, so you are saying that sometimes it is about the players and not the coaching? Go figure.

If by "it" you mean success, it has everything to with the coaching and the players (and the scouting and the trainers, etc.)
Our season starts now ! Its going to be fun watching the opponents defense get all confused with Blake, like the Colts did in the 2nd half, since we out scored the colts 17 - 12. Imagine if Blake started. we could had a very close and winnable game. I think we could actually win this game against the chargers or pull it really close. Defense needs some big changes,  but like the rest of the team they also responded to Blake and didn't give up like they did with Chad. :thanks:

Are you counting the safety that was negated by a Colts penalty? The Colts scored only 10 points in the second half.

If we think too much about "what if Blake started" a lot of people are just going to be mad at Gus Bradley. I would rather just think about why he waited until halftime to tell Bortles, "You're in."
Has anyone asked gus why bortles didnt start this week if he was ready, and they had already had the conversation? And if it's just because they wanted to give chad the opportunity, why wait untik we were down 30?

I'm not buying that this was a decision made soley by gus. I have to think caldwell or somebody spoke with him at halftime. Maybe even shad. Their presence in the postgame presser was certainly odd.

That's not to say that Gus was necessarily the one pushing for Henne.... But at the very least, this seems to suggest that their was either some disagreement or uncertainty as to how they wanted to go about this.

I think it just got to a point where they had no choice. I think the locker room was losing morale over it too. It goes back to what a lot of us were saying before: you cant preach "play the best player" and then not play the best player. No matter how they tried to justify it.
If anyone gave a nudge to Gus it was Caldwell.

But I still doubt it. I think after an 0-2 start where the offense only mustered points via awesome field position or late game garbage time, Gus and Dave knew the move would need to be made soon. And they probably had the discussion soon after the Washington game....

something like "If the offense can't look competitive we'll start the kid at some point in the Colts game"

halftime was the perfect time.

What Kane said. ^

The good news is we are only 0-3.  Does not matter if we lost by 1 point or 100 points.  It's still the same record.  I hope Bortles can give us the spark to make this team put a respectable product on the field.

If that's true, then "ready" wasn't really the factor at all.  To me, that just makes the decision to sit him for the first 2.5 games even dumber.  I like Gus, but the way the whole Bortles situation has been handled makes me think he's in way over his head.

If he didn't make the change at half, I would have literally considered him insane. I already kind of did, but that would have been one of the most absurd coaching bonehead moves I've ever seen.
