Money pit. In 4 years, one half of the room will be saying that the other half was the hold up in getting the wall built and the other half will just be glad it wasn't built. If Trump could magically get Mexico to pay for it, great. If not, don't act like little Dem jrs. and soak tons of money into a project that will almost surely have tons of waste.

$21 billion in lame duck, last gasp, Congress skipping regulations. Nix all of those and there's your wall almost exactly if you take the high side of the estimations.
Again, it's not about the money and it never has been. Both sides are perfectly willing to waste 20 billion without second thought. Don't let who is going to pay for it factor in to whether the wall should happen or not.
Who's gonna pay for that wall?
Mexico!
Mexic..
Mexi..
Mex..
...Me.
Honestly, I really don't care if The US has to pay for the wall at first, or even the whole damn thing.
The wall is needed.

How does every other country in the world survive without a physical war along their entire border? How did we do it for 200 years?
The wall is not needed. Glad to know you don't care that your tax dollars are being squandered on a very pregnable faux solution. I'm not. The US will pay for it first, last and always. And it won't work. But hey.. lot's of Trump's friends will get the contracts and since he isn't personally footing the bill, they will get paid.
Before Trump came along NOBODY on this message board expressed fear of Mexican "murderers and rapists". Fear worked wonders for Cheney/Bush. Trump learned from that. This is a monumentally dumb and expensive idea.

Illegal immigration has been a problem since the 70s. This isn't new and we've been promised it would be fixed before. Until we eliminate the incentives to come here illegally we cant win, though tighter security will certainly stem the flow.

Our tax dollar is being squandered either way, so don't sit there and pretend like the federal government is on some huge penny pinching mission and Trump is coming along to ruin it.

Doesn't seem that difficult to understand, does it?
Only for some around here I suppose
At least the money will go to good use instead of being air lifted out in the dead of night on a helicopter, El Chappo style..

Border walls are actually becoming extremely common. England, Greece, Spain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, India, many many more. I think I read there are over 60 being built right now.
Trump is just the latest dude jumping into the craze.

For tens of billions of dollars, it shouldn't just be a speed bump.

So tall tunnels and ladders will still be able to defeat it.

The idea works pretty well for Israel.

They have a completely different situation than we do and significantly less square mileage to oversee.
When was the last time Mexico lobbed mortars into Texas? Are the issues we face with Mexico primarily driven by ownership of perceived Holy Lands? Are the settlements on the US/Mexico border so intertwined it's hard to tell where one country ends and the other begins?
No. We have a clearly defined border and share the same primary religion. Mexico andd Latino culture have greatly influenced our southwestern states and there is not a military threat along our southern border.

Different reasons, but that's not what my statement was about. The point is that Israel's enemies are not defeating their border fences with ladders and tunnels.

Please stop. A 440 mile wall patrolled by a heavily armed militia is not the same solution being proposed here. Israel has a methodical tollgate system for commuting between the two states. Our southern border is not the densely populated overlapping mess of Israel /Palestine and doesn't have nearly as many hot button triggers like holy observances or decades long retaliatory attacks warranting it. Not the same thing at all.
