Quote:He is a little too slow. Is what it is.
His quickness is not even close to the likes of Marshawn Lynch.
You couldn't tell how slow/quick he was last Sunday, Phly's defensive line was living in our backfield. You guys are too harsh or just completely clueless, I'm leaning towards the latter. You're acting as if Toby is a big slow white guy, and that's far from the case.
This was a study recently performed by Zach Whitman
Toby Gerhart 6.00 231 32.00 4.50 1.50 4.25 6.94 22 38.0 9.83 130.7 N/A
Steven Jackson 6.12 231 32.38 4.55 1.52 4.09 7.03 16 37.5 9.83 130.0 84.4
"Now, test results aren’t a perfect indicator of athleticism, and Gerhart is likely not quite the athlete he was in 2010. Still, his measurables compare very favorably to those of Steven Jackson, and we don’t question Jackson’s athleticism. Gerhart is a well above-average NFL athlete and his profile suggests that his ceiling extends beyond second-stringer".

Quote:JaG4LyFe,
I'm not trying to be rude, but the issue has nothing to with TG or any of the other Jaguars backs, we simply don't have the athleticism on the offensive line to effective run the ZBS, and lack the brute strength up front to run a power scheme. There is an issue up front (particularly the middle and right side of the line) with talent.
Clearly that falls on the decision makers who decided that the ZBS should be implemented without the proper personnel in place.
Quote:Dynasty years of Elway's team? Elway played with none of those guys. He retired in 1998. Those guys were only 10-12 years ago. Even so, the Seahawks are an example now. No matter how you slice it, you are clueless.
Using Lynch as an example is just unfair. Apples and oranges. Gerhart is flat out not that good.

Lol. Trash.

We don't have the personnel up front to run any run blocking scheme effectively, you have to remember we're in the early stages of a rebuild. I expect the Jaguars to target offensive linemen early and often throughout the 2015 offseason.

Haha, one can make the argument that Toby is the most athletic RB in our division, given his immense size.

Michael Sam in the second? Oh I get it now.
Yeah, it's comparing apples to oranges as I said previously.
It's funny how the apologists come out in droves. What are y'all paid per character?

The only thing that appears to be unfair is your ability to get anything right.

Apologist for what? You tried to say somehow scatbacks were needed for ZBS when the truth is the exact opposite. You are clueless.

Comparing running backs in ZBS is unfair when that is the exact topic. My bad. Thought you could keep up.

You're comparing the slowest RB to one of the most prolific in the NFL.
You're going to need more syntax Michael Sam, how do you expect to get paid?

So am I supposed to be insulted by you calling me Michael Sam? Is that how this works?

No, it's just a dig at your credibility being that you suggested we take Sam in the second.

If Gerhart had run for 125 and 2 TDs what would you be saying? "Great signing! I knew it all along!"
Get a grip and lets see how he does in game 2.

You may have to refresh my memory on this one. I remember starting a thread about Sam at the beginning of last season when he destroyed the Gators. Don't recall ever advocating for us to take him in the second.

Two things are very clear to me.
1/ Gerhart didn't have a great game (although that wasn't entirely his fault)
2/ You can't judge a player and write him off after one game.
Surely every Jaguars player deserves to be given a proper chance ? Are we really that desperate for instant success ?
Be. Patient.

I don't think it's a matter of talent on the line and just an issue of continuity. There is a mental and chemistry aspect to the game and they need time to gel IMO. I think Gerhart will be fine and the line will get better as the season progresses.

Im not complaining. Im just being real in saying that he isn't fast enough to be a big impact player. He can carry the load for us, get some tough yards, but he isn't really going to wow anybody.
You have to have more than just power to make a big impact in this league. He is what he is. Let's not act like he will be that A+ back we have been accustomed to with Fred Taylor and MJD (when he was good).

What did we say about MJD the last couple years? HE GOT SLOW.
We went out and got somebody who is slower, but is bigger at least.
