Ok, so we blew a 17 point lead to lose the game to Philly. But instead of taking a "fan" perspective to the loss, I'm going to take a football approach to this loss.

  1. Play calling: It was terrible, especially with the lead. You have to put your foot on the gas and press down hard till the game is out of reach.
  2. O-line: For the dummies that say that Gerhart is bad, did you see any holes being made by the o-line? The pass protection was average at best and you feel sick watching them running into each other.
  3.  Henne: He is who he is. Really?
  4.  Bortles: He is not going to play. Why do you people keep calling for him? Do you really want to put him behind this line and get him hurt and lose him until next year anyways? Did you see the hits Henne took?
  5.  Defense was gassed: They played well in the first half by slowing down Philly but is you let McCoy get going, he is going to get going. Our offensive play calling didn't allow our D to get rest or catch their breath.
  6.  Injuries. Cyp was gone and Evans, and we were down to Prosinksi. Poz was hurt as well but still played well.

Seriously, we played a good game in the first half but got outplayed in the second half. Dont jump off the building yet. Its only week 1.

Henne is just slow and can't sense pressure.
How about we don't let Bortles play in fear of him getting hit...

I mean, this is a PHYSICAL game after all, we must protect our investment...

Come on man, hits will be dished out. Clearly Bortles has shown that he does not possess the same mental fortitude of Gabbert - so this "protect" him notion does not apply here...

Yes that was the worst called half I have seen a Pro team call in many, many years. Defense has to be saying"Are you kidding me"

No we didn't. Out coached and failed to respond to the adjustments Philly made.
Oline trash

Jed Fisch trash

Toby Gerhart trash

Chad Henne trash
Disagree with point #2, and thus #3.

Run blocking was awful, although Gerhart being the slowest running back alive didn't help. But pass protection wasn't bad. It was a pleasant surprise. Henne had plenty of time to throw most of the time. Sure, he took some hits, but that's the NFL.

So the reason for not playing Bortles that's used by a lot of fans seems invalid. If our pass protection today wasn't a fluke, then there's absolutely no reason you start Henne ahead of Bortles when we all know Bortles is twice as good as Henne already.

Defense was done for sure, that's why I wasn't against going for it on 4th down.  Henne sucks.

IMO, the turning point of the entire game was Gus or someone on defense not calling a timeout on the 4th and 1 Sproles score. That was a momentum back breaker.

A decent QB could have countered the momentum swing pretty easily.

Henne needed those time outs for third and ten.
I would love to know what Jed Fisch could have done differently with the play calling with the o-line playing so poorly? It is easy to criticize from the comfort of your living room or wherever you watch the game.

Gerhart didn't show me anything, nor did any running back. OTOH, Jones-Drew got a massive 11 yards on 19 carries.

Fisch is only as good as his QB

if the oline is trash its hard to measure Toby since he is running into a brick wall
I like our chances against Washington

I thought Denard did alright with his few touches.
I wish we still had Rashad Jennings.

Stop calling stretch plays for gerhart
I don't judge Gerhart based on the o-line. I judge Gerhart because he reminds me, as an oiler fan growing up, of Eddie George in his final years taking so long to hit the hole. It is painful to watch.

We made a couple of great turnovers in the 1st to jump to an early and artificial lead. The much more experienced team came out and put us in our place in the 2nd half.

Unrelated, I HATE the "We didn't expect to beat the Eagles anyway" to justify the total collapse that happened.
